On this World Oceans Day, let us pledge to protect our oceans from pollution and preserve marine biodiversity for future generations.
Here are 3 practical steps we can all take to protect our oceans:
🥄Cut out the use of single-use plastics: Millions of tonnes of plastic enter the ocean every year, majority of this is single use plastic. We can reduce how much plastic is ending up in our oceans, by looking for reusable alternatives. This can be as simple as using a metal straw over a plastic straw, a reusable climate bottle over a plastic bottle or buying loose fruit and vegetables, instead of packaged ones.
🗑 Keep waste out of the oceans: One way of ensuring your rubbish doesn’t make its way into the ocean, is by clearing and recycling rubbish after a visit to the beach. Not leaving our rubbish behind will help protect marine life and help keep Planet Blue clean.
🍤Make sustainable seafood choices: Use the Good Fish Guide to make sure the fish you buy for consumption is not at risk. Look beyond the big 5 (cod, haddock, salmon, tuna and prawns) and try alternative species to make sure we can protect more species of fish for the future.
