Right now, the swallows are gathering on the wires across the estate. In a few weeks, they'll be gone, flying south to Africa, the same journey that connects our two estates every year.

It's called Follow the Swallow: same family, same winemaker, two extraordinary settings, Walker Bay in South Africa and West Sussex in England. The swallow is the first to touch down here each spring, and the last to leave each autumn. It's not just a nice image, it's quite literally our story.

Every bottle of Benguela Cove sold in the UK has, in a sense, made the same journey our founder describes below. Penny Streeter OBE owns two wine estates at opposite ends of the earth, Benguela Cove on South Africa's Walker Bay and Leonardslee in West Sussex, and here she explains what moving between them teaches a winemaker. This is the story behind what we call the Follow the Swallow journey.

People ask me, sometimes politely and sometimes not, why we own two wine estates seven thousand miles apart.
The polite version is: "It must be wonderful, following the summer."
The less polite version is: "That seems like a complicated way to make wine."
Both are true.
