So I thought it was high time I posted an update on my lovely ladies.
During the early part of winter we rehoused the hens, providing them with a new hen house with additional nesting boxes. I am constantly looking at ways to make my girls more comfortable and am also trying to engage with them everyday, so much so, that they now come to the entrance of their enclosure whenever they hear me approaching. I guess it’s because they recognise me as the source of their food and water, but that’s fine. We also introduced additional lighting to their house, because during these dark winter days the amount of sunlight they get is much reduced and this impacts their ability to lay their delicious eggs.

I am hoping that the spring will bring some dryer weather and give me the opportunity to do some fun outdoor things for them. Hens are quite playful creatures and they enjoy lots of exercise and stimulation from toys and things placed in their runs, so I will be doing my best to provide them with plenty of objects to climb in, swing on and generally have fun with.
