There has been a lot of change recently, both within our little Byram Arcade home and more broadly but it can be somewhat grounding to think of just how much change a 145 year old arcade will have seen. Buildings like ours aren’t made solely by the occupants but by the impressions left by all who came before. It is because the walls hold so much of this love and spirit that Byram will always remain a safe, welcoming and inclusive hub for all to enjoy.

Twenty years ago, we started with a simple goal, to bring people together through the power of words. Fast forward to 2026, and the Huddersfield Literature Festival is celebrating its 20th Anniversary! 🥂

In just 20 days, we’ll be opening our doors for a landmark year of award-winning authors, local talent, and creative workshops. It’s been an incredible journey, and we can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with all of you.

There's a tea shop in a Victorian arcade in Huddersfield that has been quietly doing things properly since 2022.

Porter Hill Tea Company began with a trip to the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia — founder Matt Porter, roadside tea brewed by local families at the side of the plantation, a memory that refused to go away.

A decade later he opened his shop in the Byram Arcade — a stunning 1881 building in the heart of Yorkshire — and set about doing the thing properly. Sixty to seventy ethically sourced loose leaf teas. Twenty to thirty blended in-house. No dust. No filler. No compromises.

The kind of shop that makes you want to get on a train.
