I never thought I’d be not only promoting English wine but that I’d genuinely be impressed by English wine. Times have changed and so has the overall quality of English wine. This week is English Wine Week so it’s the perfect time to discover just how good English wine is.

South Africans know a thing or two about cooking over coals so it should come as no surprise that they also make great wines to pair with the barbecue.

This deep, velvety Petit Verdot is awash with rich black fruits and plum notes. It’s been a firm favourite for a couple of years and it’s even tastier on this incredible case deal.

A tough day for me as I headed down to London for a tasting at the Royal Horticultural Society (well the event hall attached) but close enough to plants that Rob was getting worried about how much I could carry!! Lots and lots of wonderful wines tried and some will be coming to the shop soon 🍷

An English Wine Tasting! In the shop! Well I never thought the day would come when I’d actually be excited about English wines but it just goes to prove that every day is a school day. The sparkling and still wines from are uniformly excellent and have changed my opinion so join us, and the genuinely wonderful as we take a deep dive in to these excellent wines. Fizz, white and red and Dan will also bring along some rarities for us to try too.

AWESOME YORKSHIRE GIN ALERT!!

We’ve just taken delivery of some really rather fabulous new gins from in Sheffield. We tasted them a couple of weeks ago and we were massively impressed by them, who doesn’t want a navy strength Old Tom? (VSOT and its 57.5%)

Plus they make the most incredible Morocello, a Yorkshire take on limoncello but with blood oranges, wow!! Bridget is busy putting them on the shelf as I type.

A bit late posting this, but what a night it was when the fabulous Norrel and Sharon from pop by and let us and a very excited bunch taste through their range of frankly awesome wines.

The whole range graces our shelves and each one is superb. The highlight for me had to be the El Puno Viognier. About the classiest and most elegant take on Viognier that I’ve enjoyed for a very long time and not really something I was expecting from a Spanish white.

If you want to try top notch Spanish wines with a little Scottish and Golcar influence (ask and I’ll explain) then these wines are the only ones to try.
