Morning walks with the Deli Dogs are a very different affair in September.

During May, June, July and August, we became accustomed to those incredible sunrises you’ve been seeing—and, thankfully, enjoying—with us. Now, the alarm still goes off just as early, but the sun appears to have stopped joining us.

So, armed with a head torch and two dogs wearing their Proviz vests, we head out into the darkness. There may be no glorious sunrise to photograph, but at least I always know exactly where these two stars are! ✨🐾

The words “huge selection” seem to be doing quite a lot of heavy lifting lately…

We made the list — and we’re flying the flag for Norfolk!

We’re rather proud to share this one.

The Norfolk Deli has been selected by Small Business Saturday smallbizsat as one of the Nation’s Favourite Businesses — part of a nationwide celebration of the independent businesses that help make our towns, high streets and communities what they are.

And there’s something that makes this recognition particularly special to us:

The Norfolk Deli is the only business in Norfolk to have been selected.

For a little independent deli in Hunstanton, run by just the two of us, that feels pretty significant.

We opened our doors in 2014 with a simple idea: to create a great deli, champion Norfolk food and drink, support independent producers and give people a reason to seek out something different from what they can find in the supermarkets.

More than twelve years later, we work with over 70 independent producers, have built Norfolk’s Online Farmers’ Market, send Norfolk produce across the country and continue to believe as strongly as ever in the importance of independent businesses supporting other independent businesses.

Being chosen as one of the Nation’s Favourite Businesses is wonderful recognition for The Norfolk Deli — but we also see it as recognition for the producers we work with and the customers who have supported us along the way.

So yes, we’re going to allow ourselves to be just a little bit proud of this one.

We were packing one of our Norfolk beer selection boxes this Bank Holiday Monday when something occurred to us…

This is the last Bank Holiday before Christmas.

There—we’ve said it. Christmas.

We’re certainly not trying to hurry summer along, but packing today’s hampers was a timely reminder that, before the next Bank Holiday arrives, we’ll have packed and sent rather a lot more of them.

For now, though, it’s still August—and this box of brilliant Norfolk beers is on its way to someone who clearly has excellent taste.

Boy, oh boy… what a busy weekend it’s been!

Hunstanton has been buzzing, the sun has been shining and the door has barely stopped opening. We’ve sliced cheese, made sandwiches, filled bags and chatted to an extraordinary number of lovely people.

A huge thank you to everyone who came through our doors, whether you were visiting Hunstanton for the weekend or simply popping into your local deli. We’re a two-person business, so every purchase really does matter—and weekends like this remind us just how fortunate we are to be here.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, there’s rather a lot of restocking to do…
