Transformation through Octavation.

This 2017 Speyside single malt, aged for eight years, began its journey with notes of peat smoke, glowing fire embers, lemon zest, pretzels, and smoked bacon.

Following a three-month finish in an Amontillado-seasoned Octave cask, the whisky evolved beautifully, revealing layers of ripe white grapes, toffee sweetness, apricot, vanilla, and delicate pastry notes.

We are delighted to announce that Duncan Taylor has been recognised at the ISC Awards, with The Octave Highland Park 2003 Aged 22 Years receiving Gold, while the Rare Auld Grain North British 1991 Aged 32 Years and Duncan Taylor Single Cask Auchindoun 2008 Aged 16 Years were both awarded Silver.

These awards are a proud recognition of the craftsmanship, cask selection, and character that go into each whisky we release.

We had the great pleasure of spending time with Hideo Yamaoka this week as we welcomed him to our site in Huntly, where we discussed all things whisky, from wood types and The Octave whisky to the Japanese market, while also sharing some of the exciting experiments we are currently working on.

Brad’s journey with The Octave may have come to an end, but he leaves Huntly with far more than whisky alone.

From discovering the beautiful traditions behind independent bottling to experiencing the warmth and hospitality at the heart of Duncan Taylor, his time in the Highlands has been one to remember.

His head now filled with stories, craftsmanship, and the secrets of the Octave process… and his rucksack packed with treasures to enjoy at home with him.
