Update.

I believe we have found a solution. Thank you to everyone who has helped spread the word.

We are still looking for help to relocate 12 cows. I'd first like to thank everyone for there kind efforts by sharing this post. But could I just add that I'm not trying to be difficult here I'm desperately try to find a solution to a problem and if I had a big shed full of store cattle I wouldn't even bother asking I'd just phone the mart and sell them as that's what we do. We sell weaned calves and a handful of store cattle in the spring day. Currently we have 4 April / May stores on site in a shed that's not much use for anything else.
Aldunie is stuck in the early 19 hundred's as far as sheds go. We don't have much but we had a working system where we rotated cows so we could calf them in a shed that is no more.
Like I said we are trying here to make the best of what we have.

Saturday the 10th of January 2026. You will be a day that I never forget and for all the wrong reasons.
This morning started with the realisation that Mums dog Fly that stayed with us at the farm when Mum retired to Huntly had passed to the big sheep muster in the sky. 17 years you lived with us at Aldunie. You were a dab hand among the new born lambs and a real miss when you took early retirement through ill health. It was at this point that you became Mums constant companion. You filled a gap when Dad had to be taken into residential care following his stroke.
From pup to grouchy old git you lived your life at Aldunie and will be forever remembered.
2 hours later the shed my father and Grandfather built by hand in 1974 was gone.
We suspected she would collapse last night so had moved the cows before bedtime. A sleepless night followed and to our surprise she had survived the night.
Talk turned to restoration and repair over a cup of tea. With cows and sheep to feed we turned our attention to outside work once again only to find carnage. Complete with a herd of goats eating the silage left by the cows who were evicted in the dead of night. đŸ¤Ļ‍♂ī¸
With calving due to start and shed space being of a premium here at Aldunie the real reality of the situation is yet to sink in.

I touch of green this morning after a substantial downpour last night. 2 little to late for us to finish our lambs this year though.

Trying to make the little grass we have go as far as possible into the autumn. ☚ī¸

Gathering sheep for tomorrow's sale. A job usually done early August. With lambs dipped and dosed and given a few weeks of the sweet young grass where the hay was cut. But not this year. Hay season is over and has been mostly for over a month now. What is usually a green oasis is this year a burnt desert. Supplementary feeding of stock will start early this year. With silage at a third of normal tough times lye ahead.
So if you're at United Auctions Huntly tomorrow and see our lambs remember with a little bit of feeding they will be big gimmers. 👍
