Sad news. This weekend we said good bye to Gee Whizz.
Many of you know we have been treating him for many months for a serious skin condition. He seemed to still have a good quality of life, so we were continuing to try to help him all we could, but knew the prognosis was not looking good.
On Friday as he ran up the field to us, for his usual shampoo, he collapsed. We called the vet, but he was already very poorly and so we decided he should be put to sleep peacefully. He had really taken the decision away from us.
As with all alpaca deaths we had a post mortem. There was no definite cause of death but sepsis and/or pulpy kidney disease (rapidly multiplying bacteria in blood) are the most likely, overwhelming an already poorly alpaca.
Sadly there was no indication in the PM on any reason for his skin issues, so we will probably never know the cause.
We shall always remember the cheeky cria and lovely natured young male he developed into.
R.I.P Gee Whizz.
