For the next few weeks until shearing, encouraging the boys to come in for breakfast can be a bit of a challenge! First I have to find them! Usually chilling on the beach, but it’s a big beach to search. They’re warm, and have tummies full of grass so shaking a bucket just doesn’t have the same effect as it does in winter. Once up from the beach, I need to keep them moving along the field, but they’re in no hurry, stopping for snacks and the obligatory boys toilet break, before being herded in to the shelter. And even after that, there are always one (or two) who decide they’re not coming in today! The

The boys are so lucky to have Loch Ness at the bottom of their field! Even though they’re hard to see until shearing, alpacas have sweat glands on their lower legs, meaning that if they can get their legs in cold water, it cools the whole body. For the next 6 weeks until shearing, the boys will spend plenty of time on the shore, keeping cool. Sometimes it can be a struggle to get them to come up to the pen for breakfast!
