Up at the croft this morning getting tatties for dinner...om nom nom
These are Shetland Blacks and Belle de Fontane which are both early varieties. We have 8 x varieties growing this year.
Open from the last Sunday of April to the last Sunday of September and always 1 to 5pm Every week there is fresh cakes, bakes, breads, biscuits, puddings etc.

The Wee Croft Shop was originally an idea I had to sell some of the excess fresh produce we grew in the Summer months and very quickly became one of the main outlets for my baking from my main business - Capability Browns. And then as and when available there is also fresh veg, fruits, herbs, salads, honey and eggs (all produced by ourselves so is very seasonal)
People tend to turn up early, mainl
y for the bread so if it is bread you are after, make sure you are here for 1pm or shortly afterwards. There is a different menu each Sunday and it will always be published the night before on my FB page. oh and there is a great view so if the weather is nice, feel free to bring a blanket and hang around for a whle.

Up at the croft this morning before it got too hot...everything is looking fine but very dry and dusty.
Hope you are all enjoying your Sunday, remember stay cool, stay in the shade and stay hydrated :-)
Take care folks
Things on the croft are looking good thanks to Mr Browns hard work. He remembered to take some pictures for me yesterday
We have 8 x varieties of tatties in this year - these ones are one of the main crops and are called Apache so they wont be ready till later in the year.
The gooseberries are from a new bush so looking good but not many this year. Mr Brown calls gooseberries Grozets, which is the old Scottish name for them.
And the apples are looking great. Our orchard now has many varieties of apple, pear, plum, greengage, gooseberry, blackcurrant, redcurrant, cherry and one Quince tree.
Oh and there is more rhubarb ready, so look out for rhubarb, grozet and tattie recipes (but not necessarily together) x
One of my favourite little bugs :-) Definitely a gardeners friend
Its definitely rhubarb season...
Contact me if you would like any for this Friday, I am out on deliveries in the morning, or you can pick up from us in Lochardil.

Busy day yesterday up at the croft planting more trees... You can only see a small number of them here but we have lots of heritage apples, pears, plums, cherries, greengages, quince, blackcurrants, gooseberries and raspberries.... so fingers crossed in a couple of years, lots of fruit
Mr Brown up at the croft last weekend taking advantage of the good weather.. and working on his asparagus bed
Jim up at the croft today working hard, digging, mulching, putting up fences, preparing ground for this year. All the beds are looking fab with their Winter seaweed, grass cuttings, etc

Broad beans from the croft, almost too pretty to eat....almost haha x
I really hope we don't have tatties like this, not sure I could eat them
Blossom honey now available. Its later than normal this year because they didnt get off to a good start at the beginning of the year.
The honey is extracted from the hives on our croft at the top of Leachkin Brae and is jarred by Rob Buckle who looks after the bees.
Message me on [email protected] if you would like to pick up a jar from me at my house in Lochardil, Inverness.
Couldn't resist a wee boiling of these Belle de fontayne tatties for lunch.
They aren't unlike sharpes express
Sitka spruce trees at the end of the croft road.
Jim, as wee boy went out with a pocket full of seeds... 50 years later!!
Im busy in the kitchen with orders today but Mr Brown is up at the croft and has just sent me these lovely flowers.

A wee reminder that I will be taking some time off from this weekend to Sunday 9th May inclusive. Back to work on Monday 10th May.
When I return to work, I will be supplying a couple of local places (not on the same scale as I used to when I lived on the croft).
Riverhouse restaurant and Velocity cafe
Over the next week, I will be catching up with jobs around the house, garden and spending some time on the croft as Mr Brown needs some help (he has been working so hard lately).
Watch this space for updates on my whereabouts and if you havent done already, make sure you subscribe to my mailing list to get up to date weekly delivery and takeaway menus.
Over the Summer months, people on my mailing list will also be told what fresh produce is available... first up will be rhubarb.
Thank you xx
Mr Brown hard at work up at the croft, first earlies are now in. This year we have 9 different varieties of tatties... first ones will be ready about the 20th July (all being well)
Not a very clear photo but I love it, it was taken in 2017, Jim walking up over the hill where he is now planting his orchard. You can see part of our lovely view..
And he also looks kind of like a serial killer for some reason.
