CALLING ALL GROUPS/SCHOOLS WHO PROVIDE PROVISION FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

You may have noticed that our Blue token/Stronger Starts has had a bit of a rebrand and is now known as Fruit and Veg Grants.

As a quick summary, Tesco are committed to promoting a healthy eating lifestyle for our young people so now applicants need to spend 50% of an awarded amount on food related activities and/or food.

To make things simpler you no longer need to put all costs into the application and the full award remains the same
£1,500 for 1st
£1000 for 2nd
£500 for 3rd

Today from 11-3 we have the wonder Highland Accordian and Fiddle Club at the front Foyer to entertain our customers here at Tesco Inshes.
It’s a joy to see our customers enjoying a wee jig down the aisles 💃

This is Fern and she works at the Corbett Centre at Raigmore Hospital in Speech and Language Therapy supporting adults with learning disabilities.

A speech and Language Therapist not only supports adults and children with their language problems but also patients who have problems with eating, drinking and swallowing. Their job assesses their swallowing safety and may recommend specific textures and liquid thicknesses to prevent choking.

Hydration and nutrition is extremely important for us all and Fern has been tasked to experiment with a variety of commonly available smoothies and yoghurt drinks to perform flow tests in order to determine their suitability for varying patient needs.

I was delighted when she got in touch with us here at Tesco Inshes and we browsed the store for a selection of products for her to take away to test so she can ultimately provide a simple guide for other healthcare workers to use.

I look forward to seeing the resources she creates for care homes, hospitals and other care givers.

The core purpose of Tesco is TO SERVE OUR CUSTOMERS, COMMUNITIES AND PLANET A LITTLE BETTER EVERY DAY.

So in what way can I, as the Community Champion for the Inshes store, do to help this?

Well, I am able to help local causes through our commitment to community programmes and to help my store achieve sustainability goals. I can do this by reducing our environmental impact by donating stock that we no longer sell to local charities or groups, as well as supporting local schools and youth groups promoting healthy eating.

Today, I had the absolute pleasure of taking 6 whole bags of brand new bedding to NEW START HIGHLAND down at the Carsegate for them to distribute to those that need. Working together with local charities achieves so much more especially in an area as large as the Highlands!!

The lads there were so grateful and already had it earmarked for groups that they help 😊

It’s thanks to the generosity of our customers at Inshes that 1673 meals have been donated through our FoodBank donation point in May and June. Times are tough for everyone just now and the summer holidays are particularly challenging for many.

There are pre-filled bags that can be grabbed and paid for at the checkout for you to donate into the food bin situated next to our self service checkouts. They contain mainly the items that they are currently looking for together with a few other staples or you can just buy an item and pop it into the collection point.

In store we also add to this collection point daily as well as donating surplus items at the end of each day to various charities.

If you have any questions about food donations made by Tesco please dont hesitate to ask me, I’m very proud of what we are able to do here and of the continued support of our customers.

Than raised £405 over the weekend towards her fundraising total. A massive thank you to all of the customers who donated at the weekend****

🌻Today and tomorrow in store we have the very brave Rhian , with the assistance of her daughter, fundraising for the Highland Hospice Great Walk of China trek that she will be taking part in next April.

Bobby Bee will also be making an appearance later to give her some moral support. 🐝

Yesterday I was invited to Smithton Church by the lovely Alison who helps run the group.

Armed with a donation of biscuits I was warmly welcomed to join the group and gave a wee talk about my role as community Champion for Tesco Inshes.

It’s a fantastic place for men and women to meet up for a cuppa and some delicious homebaking 🥰

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to pop in and went home delighted with my plants which shall be in my garden this weekend, thank you
