Today is my birthday, and while pulling up flooded floors in Holywells Park wasn't exactly how I planned to celebrate, the sheer kindness and generosity we’ve experienced today has completely moved me. We always say that Bishops Café & Tea Rooms and The Spring at Holywells are built on community, but today proved it.
We have some incredibly special people and local businesses to thank!
Amber Cherelle and Judith: a massive thank you for lending us your dehumidifiers. They are already hard at work drying out the spaces! 💨

The incredible Wayne came in and helped us pull up the ruined flooring in The Spring, and then took all of our café rugs away to be professionally cleaned. We are so incredibly grateful for your generosity. 🧼✨
Cadman Flooring LTD Thank you so much for stepping up and donating new carpet tiles for our yoga space and a new floor for the soggy kitchen. You’ve given us the foundation to start bringing The Spring back to life. 🧘‍♀️

The café is open, and while The Spring has a road to recovery ahead, today proved that we aren't walking it alone. Thank you, Ipswich. I couldn't ask for a better community to grow a year older in. ❤️

💔 Wet, weary, but overwhelmingly grateful.

If you tried to visit us today in Holywells Park, you would have found our doors closed. Yesterday’s flash flooding dealt a massive blow to both Bishops Tearoom and The Spring at Holywells - our community wellbeing space.
Seeing our beautiful spaces underwater was heartbreaking, and we needed today to assess the damage and begin the massive cleanup.
We’ve lost a devastating amount of stock, and sadly, the flooring and all of the yoga mats in The Spring have been completely ruined. Because of this, we’ve had to make the tough decision to cancel our upcoming Mum & Baby yoga classes with Moontree Yoga & Wellbeing. To the mums and little ones affected, we are so incredibly sorry.
But out of the mud, our local community truly stepped up.
First, a massive thank you to the Ipswich Borough Council Park Services Team. Your help following the downpour yesterday meant the world to us.
Second, we have to shout about our incredible staff. They have worked tirelessly all day today, rolling up their sleeves and scrubbing non-stop to get the café clean, safe, and ready to re-open tomorrow (Thursday)!
Tina Powick still showed up with her Kindness Café and a smile and made the best of a bad situation by gathering under the stable block archway to spread joy. Community is everything to us a Bishops.
Times like these are a stark reminder of what independent business is all about. We are a small, family-run business deeply rooted right here in the UK, and our entire focus is on building a warm, welcoming community hub for Ipswich. When you visit us for a coffee or a slice of cake, you are directly helping a local family and team rebuild after a disaster like this.
Please, now more than ever, shop local and support local businesses.

The café will be open tomorrow, ready to welcome you with open arms (and very clean floors). The Spring is going to take a bit longer to fully restore while we sort out the flooring, but we will be back as soon as we can.
If anyone has a dehumidifier we can borrow wed be extremely grateful 🙏🙏

Just another warning to our loyal customers ...
Tomorrow (Tuesday 19th May) we have a private booking from 9am-1pm.
We are open as usual but all drinks and cakes will be in takeaway and seating will be limited to outside.
Please still come and enjoy what we have to offer, hope to see lots of familiar faces.

Some of our regular Walk On members recently presented Bishops Café & Tea Rooms with a Certificate of Appreciation, in recognition of their help in hosting the Monday morning group. 🚶‍➡️🏆

The walk between Ipswich Waterfront and Holywells Park has become a regular feature of the Walk On schedule. The staff at Bishops Cafe always greet our walkers with a smile, as well as tea, coffee and delicious cakes and scones. ☕🍰
