The Fussy Vegans

The Fussy Vegans That's why we've started this project to share our recipes and reviews of new products.

We're a couple of 30-somethings, with a couple of kids, who chose to eat plant-based at the end of 2019, but we're normal-ish and don't just want to eat salads!

Have you gone plant-based but feel hungry all the time?

Did you know that "constant hunger" is one of the main reasons people stop being vegan? Choosing this lifestyle shouldn’t mean sacrificing your satiety or living with "food noise" all day.

I’ve put together a 34-page guide to help you move from hungry to truly satiated. It isn’t about eating more; it’s about a few simple, science-backed tricks to "anchor" your meals using the fibre, protein, and fats your body is craving.

I want you to enjoy your plant-based lifestyle the right way—feeling full, energised, and grounded.

The guide is just £10. If you’d like to find out more, find the link in the comments!

But where do you get your protein?" 🙄🌱

It’s the number one question plant-based eaters get. And when you hit your 40s and 50s, that question actually becomes pretty important. We know we need protein to avoid muscle loss and support our hormones—but does it have to come from animals?
The Blue Zones say no. 🌍

In the world’s "longevity hotspots," centenarians are thriving on diets that are 95% plants. So, how do they do it without losing muscle or bone density?

I’ve just posted a new blog: Plant-Based Throughout the Years. Whether you’re raising plant-powered kids or navigating the "hormonal switch-up" of menopause, I’m breaking down:
✅ Childhood: Building the blueprint without the "junk." ✅ The 20s & 30s: Why 30 plants a week is the magic number for your gut. ✅ The 40s & 50s: The "Soya Secret" for menopause and the truth about plant protein. ✅ The Golden Years: How to eat like an Okinawan for a sharper brain.
Stop worrying about "lack" and start leaning into abundance. 🥗✨

I’m here to cut through the noise. Here is your Plant-Based 101 roadmap for every stage of life—for your health, your longevity, and the planet.

🥳As we say "Goodbye!" to 2025 and "Hello!" to 2026, we approach Veganuary! 🥑

We've teamed up with The Nutrient Project to provide a simple swaps calendar to help you try out veganuary without feeling daunted!

If you fancy trying it out this year, but are unsure where to start, then look no further!

One of our first projects was a simple swaps calendar for Veganuary. Instead of going cold turkey (excuse the pun!), we have given you one actionable step per day to try out plant-based this January.

For only £3.99, make your veganuary an easy transition!

Is it just me, or is "What’s for dinner?" the hardest question of the day? 😫

I’ve officially hit a wall with our plant-based family meals. If I have to cook Bolognese, curry, or noodles one more time, I might stage a kitchen strike! 🍝

So, for Veganuary, I’m going on a mission to beat decision fatigue. I’ve signed up for ALL the big meal boxes (HelloFresh, Gousto, Mindful Chef, and more) to see which one actually lives up to the hype for a vegan family.

I’m ranking them on: ✅ Real cost vs. "Intro prices" ✅ Ease (how many pans will I actually wash?) ✅ Portion sizes (is it enough for the kids?) ✅ Taste & Health

I’ve already found a way to get one kit for just £1.46 per serving! 😲

Read my full intro and see the price breakdown here: https://www.thenutrientproject.com/post/new-year-new-recipes-my-2025-veganuary-experiment

P.S. I have one week left to fill—should I try Grubby or something else? Let me know in the comments! 👇

If you want some standard referrals to get some cheap meals for January, scroll down to the bottom of the blog. I have no affiliation to any of these companies but a friendly referral is always welcome when feeling the new year penny pinch!

New year, new recipes! This January, I’m testing the modern world of meal kits to see if they are actually worth the effort and the price tag.

We stand corrected! 🌿

We already love it here at Out-There-Artisan, but every time we visit there seems to be even more yummy vegan food on the menu!

I opted for the Katsu Cauliflower burger with a beetroot bun (look at that color! 😍) and the kids had vegan cheese pittas, fruit, veggies, and a Nakd bar. I know, I know... the cheese is still UPF 🙈 but it’s generally a healthy option!

For any vegans, especially with families, near the Scottish Borders, this place is absolutely worth a visit! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✨

So obviously, mum brain fog had me forgetting to add the actual link in my last post! 🤦‍♀️💻

We were out in the city yesterday and it really dawned on me: it is *so* hard to find good options on the go. I’ll admit, I’m being a bit hypocritical because my little one definitely had some ultra-processed foods yesterday, but that’s exactly the problem. Nowhere family-friendly seems to offer truly healthy, plant-based meals! 🌿

🍝We settled on a Rustica pasta from Bella Italia which was yummy, but it had me questioning if it was really just tomatoes and herbs. The day before, we literally just ended up asking for a side plate of veggies, potatoes, and gravy. 🥕🥔

🤔I’d love to hear your tips! 💁

How do you find healthy, child-friendly food when you’re out and about? Are there any specific chains or "hack" orders you swear by? Help me out! 👇

Link to yesterday's post is in the comments! 😬😅

This is something I’ve always found hard to discuss through fear of sounding judgmental, which is the last thing I want to be. Parenting is hard enough for all of us!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about why I feel so strongly about limiting ultra-processed foods for my family. It’s a bit of a social minefield—I often find myself staying quiet or just 'going with the flow' to keep the peace, even when I feel like I'm doing them a disservice.

I’ve written a bit about our journey, the science that swayed me, and how I’m trying to navigate those awkward social moments without being 'that' person. I'd honestly love to know how other parents handle this balance! ❤️

Check out The Nutrient Project for more tips and tricks for navigating your health!

Winter Wellness Resource from Amy: built with teachers in mind but nutritional advice for everyone!

Hey everyone! 👋

We know, we know... we have been absolutely rubbish at posting! The last time we shared anything was all the way back in 2022! Life, as it does, totally got in the way. But we are brushing off the dust and getting ready to jump back in.

We've had a few fussy vegans of our own in the last few years which have kept us busy! 🍼🤱

We promise we are going to get back to sharing fantastic vegan recipes and tips with you all very soon. Thank you so much for sticking around and continuing to follow us!

📚 A Quick Heads Up About Amy
While we were away, Amy was busy studying and has successfully completed her Level 4 and 5 in Nutrition to become a certified Nutritional Adviser! Go Amy! 🥳

She has created a new page called The Nutrient Project which focuses on how food can specifically support health and well-being.

🌱 Don't worry, she is still 100% vegan!

🔬 The new page is science-based and her advice is for everyone.

💡 While it isn't strictly a vegan page, it offers loads of ideas on how to incorporate great plant-based recipes into a healthy, wider lifestyle.

👩‍🏫 Her current niche is helping stressed-out teachers and professionals (coming from her own experience!), but her tips are valuable for anyone looking to feel better.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, please consider giving The Nutrient Project a like and a follow to help her build her new community!

Thank you again for all your support. We'll be back in your feed soon!
