"It never even crossed my mind to make w**e." 🍷

That's Anne Lekkerkerker (, Régnié, Beaujolais 🇫🇷). She moved to Beaujolais in 2018 to run a B&B, and the property just happened to be an old w**e farm.

Then the hard part. 2024 brought rain, spring frost, disease and hail, and a harvest about a quarter of the year before. The first parcel she farmed had been farmed with pesticides, and in her words the soil was "pretty much a moon landscape". Now it's alive with plants, insects and other animals 🌱

She keeps a permanent cover crop and doesn't turn the soil. It costs her yield, but she believes it will help create a healthier environment 🍇

Distributors are disappearing. Here's how Flo found another way.

5am. W**emaker Flo is already up, getting ready for harvest at 6.

It's still early August — and this is the earliest vendanges he's ever had. A full month early. 40 degrees in the day. Bloody hot. And he still has to bring in the whole harvest, press it, get it into fûts or tanks.

Then comes the hard part: how do you actually sell it? Fewer and fewer distributors are out there buying from small independent w**emakers like Flo. Markets are shrinking.

So Flo decided to co-create Vivan with us — and now you can buy his w**e direct. No middlemen, no distributor squeeze.

Clover, sheep and trees: how Anne is bringing her soil back 🌱

Anne Lekkerkerker (, Régnié, Beaujolais 🇫🇷): "There was nothing growing on the soil between the vines." So she sowed clover for a cover crop. It was hard at first, because the soil wasn't really alive yet.

In winter the sheep come into the vineyard to eat it. And where old vines (about 90 years old) have gone missing, she plants trees to help the soil recover 🐑🌳

From B&B dream to w**emaker 🍇 Live with Anne Lekkerkerker of in Régnié, Beaujolais.

She bought the vineyards around her home to keep them pesticide-free, then decided to make the w**e herself.

We talked about a sprayed "moon landscape" coming back to life, the 2024 vintage that gave her only a quarter of a normal harvest, and her first orange w**e, ageing in a clay amphora.

We prioritise women in w**e. Here's the actual reason why.

Check this comment we got: "Glad to see we aren't interested in who's the best, just who has the right plumbing… mediocrity over meritocracy always wins."

Wow.

The real reason we prioritise women in this industry — it's not a quota, it's not a number. It's because women have been historically shut out and underrepresented here. We're just trying to close that gap.

And actually — prioritising visibility for women is the meritocratic move. Not the opposite. Organisations like have been documenting exactly this imbalance for years — this isn't just our opinion.

Your £10 bottle? Only about £1.93 of it is actually w**e 🍷

The rest goes on duty, VAT, glass, transport and everyone's cut along the way.

Those costs barely change as the price goes up, so a £20 bottle has over three times the w**e in it.Buying better isn't about spending more. It's about where your money lands.
