BIG BRITISH PEONIES! No trickery needed. Our peonies really are this big and blousy in full bloom. We have a really nice group for Friday Night’s Peony Bouquet Workshop at The Hirsel Estate’s Walled Garden, but have plenty of space so if you fancy making a Big Blousy Peony Bouquet in the gorgeous surroundings on this historic estate, you can sign up on our website. The more the merrier for our Peony Garden Party! 12th June, 6pm to 8.30pm, The Hirsel Estate’s Walled Garden, Coldstream, Scottish Borders. Bring your own nibbles and fizz etc if you wish. This will be a fun and relaxed floristry workshop with flowers, foliage and some VERY SPECIAL PEONIES grown by me - Zena - on our farm by Kelso in the Scottish Borders.

Next Friday Evening! Flouer’s holding a Peony Bouquet Making Garden Party in the Hirsel estate’s Walled Garden. 12th of June. 6pm for 6.30pm start. 8.30pm end. I’ll be teaching you how to make a huge peony bouquet - including some of our Popular, Special & Premium Collection Peonies. Along with seasonal flowers and foliage. £36/person (incl VAT). You take away your big blousy peony bouquet and have a lovely evening in the walled garden with it. You’re very welcome to sign up in a group (we have lots of space), or as an individual, and you can BYOB of fizz and snacks (as long as you promise to behave - a little). And so close to midsummer eve it will be glorious! Even if we have monsoon rains we are going to be well covered as the Hirsel estate have kindly offered that we can have our Peony Party in the Emu Pen! I’m often asked - “What do you do if you don’t sell all your peony stems in a season”. And often, I overlook the fact that people think that all the stems should be cut off the plant each season which is absolutely NOT the case. And this is why there SHOULD be the spectacle of peonies in full bloom remaining on the plant (presuming you don’t take the flower heads off immediately before flowering) even when you’ve already cropped that variety for the year. You should be only cutting about 1/3 of the stems each year - so that this long lived perennial plant can photosynthesise with the remaining stems and feed the roots for next year’s flowers. This is the proper and correct management of a peony crop - long term. And this is why my peonies are the biggest and strongest blooms and plants in the business (prove me otherwise). We are well set up here for a bit of a breezy day - the peonies are used to it. And we will have our new shed open for my talk etc if we get a sprinkling of rain - so we look forward to seeing you on Sunday 10am to 1pm, Hadden Farm Ltd, Kelso, Scottish Borders TD5 8HU for our open morning. FLOUER’s WHITE PEONY EDIT - available now on our website and until the end of our season - I think we can push things for another 10 days if we’re lucky, maybe slightly longer. We have MANY Popular to quite Rare Varieties of White Peonies - often highly scented and with beautiful texture and form. So, we’ve created Flouer’s White Peony Edit. Order now for postal dispatch from Monday across the UK*.
