One of the things that came up in a couple of our recent reviews was the advice we give when people are choosing their wedding menu. And I think that’s worth mentioning because you really don’t need to have it all worked out before you contact us!

We’ll talk about what you like eating, the time of year, how you want the day to feel, how the food will be served and, of course, what is actually practical for the number of people you’re feeding.

Sometimes the original idea changes completely by the time we’re finished - and that’s absolutely fine.

A seasonal and very local delicacy for our guests this evening - breast of wood pigeon served with redcurrant jelly (from the garden) and garden brambles. Felt appropriate to decorate the board with the pea shoots that they so enjoy eating!! 🤗

The garden is properly earning its keep at the moment! Beetroot, courgettes, salads, herbs and plenty more coming along behind them.

We can’t take much credit for how good it’s looking though - that belongs to Jo, who does all the planting and maintenance and somehow keeps on top of it all. We’re very lucky to have such lovely produce to use in the kitchen!

The beetroot has done particularly well this year. We use the roots, obviously, but the young leaves are good too and can be cooked much like chard.

I know we’ve mentioned this wedding before, but it was such an interesting one to cook for.

Claire and her husband wanted their wedding feast to bring together their Scottish and Persian backgrounds, so we worked with them to create a menu that felt personal to them.

Claire has since left us the loveliest Google review and said that lots of their guests thought it was some of the best wedding food they’d ever had. No pressure for the next one then! 😂

Coming up with the menu is actually one of our favourite parts of wedding catering. Sometimes couples know exactly what they want and sometimes they have absolutely no idea - both are fine!

The redcurrants have gone slightly mad! They’re one of those fruits that can make you pull a face if you eat them straight from the bush but that sharpness makes them brilliant for cooking.

They work particularly well in puddings, jellies and sauces, especially alongside something rich or sweet. Now we just need to get to them before the birds do!

Cranachan - is there a more Scottish pudding? And perfect to showcase fantastic Scottish ingredients, including perfectly ripe raspberries, whiskey, oats and of course a bit of honeycomb produced in our fields and kindly handed over by Jo!
