Clarke, great-grandfather of the present managing Director John Barron. In the summer of 1919 Mr Clarke purchased an old recipe and started manufacturing in Leightons Yard, Highgate. The name George Romney came from the well known portrait painter and also, the family home happened to be in Romney Road. In 1918 the company was contacted by the organisers of an expedition to concur Everest, led by

Sir Edmund Hillary. The rest, as they say, is history, and Romney's quickly become one of the UK's most popular brands. Staying strong to it's roots, the company still manufacture in Kendal, and are known for producing the famous Kendal Mint Cake bar which has become an essential kit bag item for walkers and sports people alike.

Job Description:
George Romney Ltd are looking for a full time Confectionery Production & Machine Operative Assistant to join our small, friendly team at our busy factory in Kendal.

Along with making our world famous Kendal Mint Cake, the successful candidate would also be involved in the production of our hand made Fudge and Treacle Toffee.

Experience within the food industry would be preferred, along with minimum Level 2 in Food Hygiene and Safety for Manufacturing.
A knowledge of SALSA would be an advantage but not essential.

In 2026, our focus has been on our 'bespoke label' options and how we can improve the end product offered to our stockists. With this in mind, investment has been made into a new label printer, which is capable of producing labels in full colour with much greater detail.

Stockists who previously purchased 'own label' products will be contacted shortly regarding the new colour labels, and our office team will work alongside you to create the label for your business. Stockists that do not currently take products with their own label and would be interested in this option can notify our office team, and we will provide our latest price list featuring the bespoke label options.

Romneys x Montbell Matcha Kendal Mint Cake

To celebrate the opening of the first Montbell UK store in Keswick, Romney's were tasked with creating a Matcha flavoured Kendal Mint Cake which blends traditional Japanese & Cumbrian flavours into one superpowered Energy bar!

Matcha is considered a fundamentally Japanese product, deeply rooted in Japanese culture, specifically the traditional tea ceremony (chanoyu). While the practice of grinding tea originated in China, it was brought to and perfected in Japan in the 12th century, where it became a unique, high-quality, shade-grown tea speciality.

In order to get the Matcha flavouring correct, two small test batches were created, one with 15ml of Matcha flavouring per 500g and one with 30ml. The samples were sent off to the client, who decided to proceed with the bar containing the higher Matcha content and noted that the flavours are 'well balanced'.

From just £0.47 + VAT per bar*, Romney's bespoke Kendal Mint Cake can be used to promote a business, B&B/hotel, sporting event or as an e-commerce gift when a customer has made a purchase; the list really is endless!

Cable & Blake are passionate about producing fabric as locally as possible and getting Herdwick wool on the map. The fleeces are sourced in the Lake District and the yarn is traditionally woven at Farfield Mill in Sedbergh. This produces the natural Dove Grey fabric, which is then finished and dyed into subtle colours of the Lakeland landscape in Yorkshire. The ethos is to keep the carbon footprint to a minimum and produce a British product.
