British Simmental cattle, whose origins go back several hundred years to the Simmen valley in Switzerland, were first introduced into the UK in 1970. Since then the breed has grown to be the 4th largest beef breed in the UK and leads the way on the promotion of health in beef breeding cattle. Simmental cattle are probably the most genuine “dual” purpose breed that can be crossed successfully with

any other breed and produce cows which are extremely milky, fertile, docile and with great natural mothering instincts. The breed also possesses tremendous terminal genetics, with excellent growth rates and daily live weight gains of in excess of 2kg/day achievable in an intensive beef finishing system (varied results between heifers, steers and bulls). With farmers seeking to run lower input systems and find ways of reducing costs, Simmental cattle are further increasing in popularity due to their ability to rear a calf on milk and not on concentrates. Coupled with high growth rates and carbon efficiencies, the breed offers a competitive edge and increased profitability in the present climate.

🟠⭐️SNAPSHOT OF ADRIAN IVORY, THE SIMMENTAL JUDGE AT THE 2026 ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOW!🟠⭐️

‼️Simmental judging is at 9.00am this Thursday, 18th June, at Ingliston, Edinburgh.

👌It’s that time of year again, as the 2026 Royal Highland Show takes place between Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st June at the Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston, EH28 8NB.

📌One of the breed highlight events, there are 61 Simmentals entered this year from exhibitors across Scotland and England.

💥The man in the middle with the honour of judging this year’s Simmental classes is Adrian Ivory who runs the noted Strathisla Simmental herd at Strathisla Farms, Moolies, Meigle, Blairgowrie, Perthshire.

🐂Strathisla Farms is a mixed farm comprising of 250 breeding cows – 60 pedigree Simmentals, 50 pedigree Charolais, and 140 commercial cows which are mainly Simmental cross, and with some Shorthorn and Hereford cross cows.

🟡On the crop side Strathisla Farms grow winter wheat, spring barley for malting, winter barley for soup pearling, and their own feed along with a small area of oats. Looking after some 2,500 acres.

🎯Strathisla Simmentals was started by Alistair Morison in 1979 with the purchase of Plurenden Geraldo, who went on to become Male and Supreme Champion in 1980 at the Royal Highland Show, and in 1981 he was used by Edinburgh City Council to promote tourism! Strathisla Farms hosted the World Simmental Congress in 1982, and next year will host the Scottish Beef Associations 2027 Beef Expo.

🏅Regular exhibitors, Strathisla have shown at the Royal Highland Show every year since their pedigree herds have been established, bar the Covid year, and have seen it as a great advertising opportunity, and won numerous prize tickets along the way. Highlighting this most recently, Strathisla Pentagon was sold on the back of the 2024 Show to the Denizes herd and whilst at Ingliston!

🙂👉With a view to judging the Simmentals, Adrian Ivory said: “I very much look for a modern animal which has to walk well and has plenty of length. I like my females to be feminine while not being too fit. Bulls need to have a good top, along with a square end, while being able to stride out and carry the weight they have. Cows ideally should have a calf at foot as she needs to be earning her keep. The Royal Highland Show is the signature show piece in Scottish agriculture. As such I’m very honoured to be judging the Simmental breed and am greatly looking forward to it.”

✅Of the Simmental breed generally, Adrian went on to say: “Simmental is in my view the most improved of the major breeds with locomotion improving greatly, and animals getting longer and cleaner. I think the breed has a fantastic future as it has the ability to produce sought after females, and bulls that finish as quick as any breed. Speed of finishing is so important for both profitability and the perceived environmental benefits. As long as breeders continue to bring quality stock to sales and cull out the poorer ones the breed will continue to go from strength to strength.”

❗️So all roads now lead to Ingliston and here are a few timings and points to keep a note of:

🔸Judging is at 9.00am on Thursday 19th June and in the cattle ring in front of the Simmental marquee.

🔹At 4pm on Thursday there will be a prize giving and welcome to all hosted by the British Simmental Cattle Society, and Scottish Simmental Club, in the Simmental Marquee.

🔸Following the prizegiving, and at 5pm, there will be an announcement of a ‘special’ Simmental promotional event being held in 2027!

🔹At 6pm the Scottish Simmental Club will be hosting an evening BBQ with food provided by Country Refreshments. Tickets are available through the day and ‘on the door’ at £20 per head.

🌞A warm welcome and invite is extended to all to the Simmental marquee over the four days of the show. As always there will be tea, coffee, sandwiches, and tray bakes available, and a fully licensed bar to ‘wet your whistle’ whilst you’re chewing the fat!

😀Simmental staff and Scottish Club members will be on hand to talk about the Simmental breed and the Society, and there will be promotional materials available as well. This year there will also be some demonstration Simmental branded clothing for you to try on and order if you’d like to!

🫵It’s a ‘Super Simmental’ four days and if you’re planning to be there we very much look forward to seeing you!

🔴🏆SIMMENTAL CHAMPION AND RESERVE PICTURES FROM THE 2026 ROYAL THREE COUNTIES AS CADE KATHLEEN’S ROCKSTAR WINS AGAIN!🏆🔴

🏵️Beanhill Lettie Overall Simmental Reserve and Interbreed Continental Cow & Calf Champion

💥Just a follow up post and the official pictures of the Simmental Champion and Reserve at the 2026 Royal Three Counties Show. As a reminder, lifting the Overall Simmental Supreme was the in-calf heifer Cade Kathleen’s Rockstar, aka ‘Roxy’, from the Rougemont pedigree herd of Mary Cormack, Leominster, Hereford.

👌In the 2026 show season to date, this latest win follows Roxy winning the Overall Simmental Supreme, and Individual Interbreed Supreme at the recent Royal Cornwall, and the Simmental Overall Supreme, and Reserve Interbreed Continental Championships at the Devon County in May.

🙂👉Here’s what the judge of the Simmental Classes and Championship, British Simmental Cattle Society President Chris Martindale who runs the Forsdale pedigree herd at Coedfa, Oswestry, had to say on his Overall Simmental Champion: “This heifer is a great example of a modern Simmental female and she just oozes style from her nose to her tail. With a tremendous ring presence she is great over the top with wide, level plates, is very square from behind, and travels well. A superb Simmental heifer, and a worthy Simmental Champion.”

🎖️Taking the Overall Simmental Reserve, before going to win the Continental Cow & Calf Interbreed was Beanhill Lettie EX 92 from Mr & Mrs RJ & BE Kimber, Beanhill Farm, Chippenham, Wiltshire.
October 2020 born, Beanhill Lettie EX 92 is sired by Ballinalare Farm Galaxy 15, and is out of Beanhill Hettie EX 94, a Losning Iver (P) daughter.

✅Lettie was shown with her fourth calf at foot, the January 2026 born heifer calf Beanhill Tanya, by Broombrae Major M3 21.
A good show of close on 30 Simmentals at the Royal Three Counties Show and well done to all of the exhibitors!

🏆🎶ROXY ‘MAKING MUSIC’ AS SHE WINS SIMMENTAL OVERALL SUPREME CHAMPION AT THE ROYAL THREE COUNTIES SHOW!🏆🎶

💥Becoming one of the early 2026 Simmental Superstars, the in-calf heifer Cade Kathleen’s Rockstar, aka ‘Roxy’, from the Rougemont pedigree herd of Mary Cormack, Leominster, Hereford, added the Simmental Overall Supreme Championship at the Royal Three Counties Show, Malvern on 11th June, to her ever growing list of show titles.

🏵️In the 2026 show season to date, this latest win follows Roxy winning the Overall Simmental Supreme, and Individual Interbreed Supreme at the recent Royal Cornwall, and the Simmental Overall Supreme, and Reserve Interbreed Continental Championships at the Devon County in May.

🙂👉Judging the Simmental Classes and Championship this time round was British Simmental Cattle Society President Chris Martindale who runs his own Forsdale pedigree herd at Coedfa, Oswestry, Shropshire. Commenting on his Overall Simmental Champion, Mr Martindale said: “This heifer is a great example of a modern Simmental female and she just oozes style from her nose to her tail. With a tremendous ring presence she is great over the top with wide, level plates, is very square from behind, and travels well. A superb Simmental heifer, and a worthy Simmental Champion.”

✅Cade Kathleen’s Rockstar was purchased by Mary Cormack for 15,000gns at the Next Generation V Sale at Carlisle in December last year, and from breeders Paul & Sharrie Cade, Buckden, Peterborough. January 2024 born, Roxy is by Sacombe Jameson 18, out of Brandane Kathleen, and is in-calf to Backmuir Pegasus.
