🏘️ Looking after the Heart of Headingley 💚

Meet our member HDTHeadingley 👏, a community-owned trust that’s “co‑operating to change the world” 🌍 by operating businesses that deliver social good and enrich lives in a suburb. So here’s a big shout out to them!

🤩 HDT was established in 2005 to deliver initiatives that promote and sustain the neighbourhood of Headingley and its community. Since then, it has delivered a range of socially conscious enterprises that positively impact the lives of local people. 👍️

It began with the repurposing of an old Victorian primary school 🏫 – transforming it into HEART - Headingley Enterprise and Arts Centre, a vibrant hub for arts, culture 🎭, socialising and enterprise. HEART provides immeasurable social benefit, with a rich programme of music, films 🎬, talks, fitness 💪 and wellbeing activities.

Thanks to HDT, also hosts a monthly Headingley Farmers’ Market 🥕🫑 – a celebration of local produce accompanied by music and children’s activities. It has a community orchard 🍎 and local greengrocers. And the organisation delivers a wide range of social activities, from table tennis clubs 🏓 to philosophy cafés ☕.

🚀 “The successes of HDT show people want to see their money have an ethical, local and sustainable impact,” said Membership Secretary Archie Wright‑Beattie. “HDT delivers over £1.3million of social value annually into the local economy. Members stress how much they appreciate this beyond traditional notions of economic value.”🫶
