MEET OUR SUPPLIERS: Erika, right here in Aldwincle 🧼

One of several suppliers that are our neighbours! Erika makes her handcrafted soaps a minute's walk from the shop.

Each bar is made from olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, water and essential oils. No palm oil, no synthetic fragrance, no foaming agents.

(A quick note for the curious: soap-makers use lye to turn oils into soap - it's what makes soap soap. By the time a bar has cured, the reaction is complete and there's no lye left in it. Every bar of real soap ever made has been made this way.)

Kind to skin, smells wonderful, lasts for ages and is biodegradable/eco-friendly. Makes a lovely gift!

Current scents include calming lavender, zingy peppermint, refreshing lemon and warm cedarwood.

WHY WE STOCK ECO CLEANING PRODUCTS & TOILETRIES 🌿

Did you know, chemicals from our homes end up discharged back into our rivers, seas and ground water?

When we pour cleaning and cosmetic products down the drain, they enter the waste water system, and may filter into the local water treatment plant. Unfortunately chemicals like phosphates, optical brighteners and synthetic fragrances aren't all removed along the way.

That's why our stock includes environmentally friendly cleaning products that won't add to river pollution. They're also much gentler for sensitive skin.

Here are a few faves:

🧴 Bio-D for washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and cleaning spray. Plant-based, no phosphates, no optical brighteners, no chlorine bleach. Bottles are 100% recycled plastic.

🛁 ALTER/NATIVE for beautifully essential oil fragranced hand wash, body wash and shampoo.

🫧 Aldwincle Hand Crafted Soaps are made a few doors down! Simply olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, water and essential oils. Wonderful for all skin including dry and sensitive.

MEET OUR SUPPLIERS: Suma 🌱

Much of our wholefoods, store cupboard basics, eco cleaning products and free-from range comes from Suma, a wholesaler based in Yorkshire. What makes them unusual is how they're run. Suma is a workers' co-operative, founded in 1977. No bosses, no outside shareholders, and every single person who works there is paid the same wage — which makes them the largest equal-pay co-operative in Europe.

They're vegetarian throughout, with a big organic and fairly-traded range.

We think how a business treats its people matters as much as what's in the packet. Look for the Suma, Ecoleaf and ALTER/NATIVE labels next time you're in.

MEET OUR SUPPLIERS: Station Farm, Finedon 🥚

The eggs on our shelf have had a very short journey. They come from Station Farm on Finedon Station Road - a family farm that started back in 1995 with a field and a few hens, and is still going strong three decades later.

Free range, properly fresh, and laid by birds with the run of a Northamptonshire field rather than a shed in another county.

Being so nearby means eggs arrive here much fresher than the big supermarket supply chains can manage. You can taste the difference!

Pop in and grab a box for the best weekend breakfast 😄
