A little update from the hedgerows 🌿
I’ve been quiet on here this year. It’s not that I haven’t been productive. On the contrary, I’ve been distracted, but super busy clearing freezers of fruit as we’re in the middle of selling our family home, which sadly means saying goodbye to my little workshop and kitchen. A new chapter is beginning, and I’ll soon be looking for new premises! I’ll keep you posted.

All this means I’ve hardly been in the hedgerows this year, i also sadly lost my lovely friend Sally earlier this year. She helped me forage hedgerow berries for seven years and will be hugely missed.

With Sally’s help no longer available, some hedgerow favourites may be in short supply this year — so if you have a favourite, don’t leave it too long!

Thank you for bearing with me through this little period of change. 🌿

I’ll have my H/H flag up so you can find me easily. Come and have a browse, say hello and, of course, have a rummage through the preserves! Green Park Station, Bath

Today’s temptation? These gloriously plump figs from the fruit market. They’re almost too beautiful to chop up.

But into the jam pan they go! I’m making my much-loved, limited edition, Date & Fig Chutney now so it has plenty of time to mellow and develop before Christmas. Like a good cheese or a fine wine, it’s worth the wait.

Now it’s a race against the workshop heat. I’m hoping to have it all jarred up by lunchtime before I melt into the preserving pan myself! 🄵

Well… I made a chilli jam. šŸŒ¶ļø It’s not something I usually make—there are already some brilliant chilli makers in Bristol—but one customer kept asking, so I thought I’d give it a go.

It came out a touch hotter than I’d planned (consider yourself warned!), but I’m really happy with how it’s turned out. It won’t become a permanent fixture in my range, but I did enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone and making something a little different.

It got me thinking… is there a jam, marmalade or preserve you love but can never seem to find? If so, let me know. I can’t promise I’ll make everything, but I’m always up for a challenge!

I’ll have a limited number of jars with me at Keynsham farmers market on Saturday, 9am-1pm. If you’d like me to save one for you, just pop me a message.

Throwback to 2023, when my favourite radio presenter, , brought his son in for work experience… and somehow I ended up with my very own rap advert! šŸ˜‚

His voice is ridiculously cute, and it still makes me smile every time I hear it.

If you’re looking for a radio station that’s a bit different, check out . It’s a Patreon-supported station for fans, packed with great music, laughs, and a wonderfully bonkers community. Come and join the fun! šŸŒ±šŸŽ™ļø

My little business turns 18 in a couple of months… which seems impossible because I’m sure I only started it about six Tuesdays ago. What a journey it’s been. Along the way I’ve made some truly special foodie friendships, built wonderful connections with local landowners, had a small unit built at the back of the house… and somehow also managed to raise three children.

Those children have spent years enduring my enthusiastic (their word: relentless) commentary on wild food and being subjected to impromptu plant identification tests on walks. I’m delighted to report it wasn’t all falling on deaf ears — they’re now actually pretty good at recognising wild edibles. So apparently, somewhere between the eye rolls and requests for normal snacks… they were listening after all.

Over the years I’ve won awards for my preserves, including Best Preserve at the Bristol Good Food Awards (back when that was a thing), and plenty of other achievements I’m really proud of… but only now do I truly feel like I’ve made it.

Because… I bought a white van.

Gone are the days of wrestling a gazebo into my Mini and driving to markets with the car body basically sitting on the tyres. Enter a new era: loading things in upright and arriving without apologising to the car.

I did slightly overestimate the size of the signs and accidentally ordered them absolutely enormous. A bit of cut-and-paste later and they’re… characterful. Good enough for now.

So if you spot the Heavenly Hedgerows van out and about, give me a wave šŸ‘‹ And please bear with me while I learn to live without a rear-view mirror and stop treating corners like I’m still in a Mini.

Back in stock — and worth the wait! šŸ“
Our no added sugar jams are finally back: Strawberry & Rhubarb and Wild Plum are available again.

It’s been a little while because the delicious plant-based sugar alternative I use is sadly no longer being made — but I’ve managed to secure a small imported batch so I can bring your favourites back.

Stock is limited, so enjoy them while they’re here! In the meantime, I’m testing new alternatives that live up to the same standard. And if all goes to plan, I’m hoping to add a Blackcurrant batch later this week too.

Made with no added sugar, the only sweetness comes naturally from the fruit itself — all the flavour, just naturally sweet.

Treat yourself to a delicious, no-added sugar indulgence!

Yesterday was my final wild garlic pick of the season, and after hours of washing and prepping, I’ve made the very last batch of my popular nut-free wild garlic pesto!

These jars will be available at Saturday’s Farmers’ Market in Keynsham, but they always sell quickly, so do email or message me if you’d like to reserve one.

They’re not listed on my website, but I can also post them out if you can’t make it to the market—just get in touch by email or message.

Once they’re gone, that’s it until next year! 🌿
