…….ok so it’s been a while since I’ve posted but this really deserves a space in my grid because it was SO GOOD!
Those local to West Norfolk will know The Lattice House Bar & Grill. Take away everything you think you know about the old gal and go give her a look in her new guise.
Yep, inside still looks like the familiar old place we’ve all known over the years but…..changes are coming. And, with one of the best chefs this county has the food offerings are amazing!
£20 Mexican buffet tonight.
A really well priced menu.
Top drawer Sunday carvery where the foods actually hot and constantly replenished so it’s fresh.
Completely independently owned by two locals…….if you wanna keep our town going these are the places that need our support
Not Poco Lounge, not Wetherspoons, not Starbucks or any other s**tty chain that’s infiltrated our high streets over the years! Spend an extra couple of quid and support someone locals dream and stop funding multi multi millionaires who tax dodge and don’t do anything for our local economy or that of the country!!

…..so the last 14 months I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in the prep and launch of these magical places! Now available via for a Norfolk holiday….who doesn’t want to stay in a Windmill!
The Windmill sleeps 2 (no kids or dogs for safety reasons)
Fantail sleeps 4 (no kids under 10 and accepts 2 doggies)
Wallower…..third property that’s identical to Fantail launching later in the year.
Both minimum of 3 nights and anyday arrival (apart from Sunday)
Set in the beautiful North West Norfolk village of Harpley!

……still here and doing what I do!
Feeling extremely lucky this year that all my places are still super busy. With a whole 360 flip happening in the U.K. holiday home industry times are so so tough for many but right pricing, right flexibility for guests and consistently being 10/10 and giving 100% pays off!
Couple of amazing new places added too…..I mean who doesn’t want to stay in a windmill?!!

……most people that know me know I absolutely despise wood burners (for many reasons) but…..what I despise more is people not doing the job they are paid to do!!
It’s winter, guests use log burners when they come away this time of year so part of the changeover clean is cleaning the wood burner…..but apparently not for varying other cleaning firms!
2 x log burners took me a total of 12 minutes to get gleaming again.
Always a small amount of ash left in the base as this assists with lighting the next fire.
I’d always leave all my burners pre-laid before ready for people to simply strike a match but since the introduction of the October 23’ fore regs this is no longer recommended so starter fire kit is now all left in a small basket to the side, ash boxes emptied and black all polished ready to go again!
It makes such a nicer impression for guests to see beautifully shining glass rather than a burnt and black door before they’ve even lit a fire!

…..unashamedly blowing my own trumpet!!!
This industry is tough, any hospitality business/person will agree with me and customers/guests, since Covid, have become seriously challenging (putting it politely)
After 30 years in this game I’m not afraid to shout about myself, blow my own trumpet and actually say I am bloody good at my job!!
I put my owners and their guests first and foremost over anything and everything else in my life!

…..let’s talk beds!!!
Why are cleaning/management companies not teaching their staff how to make beds properly??
Contrary to popular belief there is an actual correct way that a duvet goes into a duvet cover (normally label of duvet on the side believe it or not!!)
Anywhere that I manage but don’t clean for I end up losing hours having to remake all the beds! Sheets not put on correctly (don’t start me on flat sheets and hospital corners, they’ve got to be perfect), pillow corners not in pillowcases properly and duvets ALWAYS in the covers the wrong way…….i was taught if you do a job you do it properly and if it takes an extra 10/20 minutes to get them right then that’s what it means!!
Everywhere I’ve stayed in the last 3 years I’ve also had to remake the beds……..come on people do your jobs properly!!!!
In this super tough industry that’s getting tougher and tougher by the day first impressions count and owners are relying on you to do what you’re paid to do!!!

……ok peeps let’s talk new legislation!
Yep, it’s dull as dishwater but, it’s law and it’s about time this industry got a kick up the backside and sorted the wheat from the chaff!
There’s been far far too many owners and back street agents operating and renting out any old crap these past few years!!
The rules are fairly basic, standard stuff to keep people safe…..but…..if you don’t follow these rules you can and will be shut down (believe me, the fire service take no prisoners!)
Basics……
*Hard wire electrical testing (required 5 yearly)
*PAT testing ALL electrical equipment (required yearly)
*Servicing of boilers/heating systems (yearly)
*Servicing of log burners (yearly)
*Chimney swept (yearly)
*Adequate smoke/heat alarms. (MUST BE TESTED ON EVERY SINGLE CHANGEOVER) can be battery powered for now but must be on a 3 year plan to be hard wired in
*Carbon monoxide alarms (as above)
*Main fire escape MUST be able to open from the inside without a key so either a yale/deadlock or small fire escape push bar.
*Adequate lighting for people to find escape route (can be night lights on landing/hallways or torches in every bedroom…..if torches batteries MUST be checked at every changeover
*Fire escape plan of property with emergency contact details of emergency services and properties “responsible person details”
*Fire safety report done and accessible should guests wish to see it (must be done yearly and any changes/risks updated)
These are the basics. Easy enough to sort, won’t cost the earth but will save your arse!
If you have a property manager they need to keep records of all the above off site and it must be accessible with logs kept if alarm checks should the emergency services or guests request it.
Your manager is as responsible as you, the owner and in the very worst case scenario you’d all be sharing the dock and up on manslaughter charges!
Agents will require proof of all of this and have the right to unlist your properties and guests also have a right to see evidence and to stay in a safe property where owners have done the best they can to minimise risks!

…….ok the s**t has hit BIG TIME and I desperately need some help PLEASE…….my lovely cleaner has Achilles tendinitis and can’t walk let alone clean poor sod and is likely to be out of action for a few weeks…..can anyone help me out Friday’s and possibly some Saturday’s…….EXCELLENT rates of pay compared to other companies. Self employed basis. Must have own car. Anyone know anyone that can help even this Friday only would be a huge help. Thanks in advance from a very desperate Lou!! X

……it really does mean the world to get a thanks every now and then! 24/7 it’s relentless with some guests being extremely unpleasant and VERY needy!! Receiving a thanks pushes all the bad to one side and really does make my day…..
