“I didn’t just cross Iceland by bike, I survived to tell the story. I found the adventure I was looking for.”

After four years at Shackleton, every member of our team is given the opportunity to take a four-week sabbatical and pursue an adventure of their own.

For 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗢𝗡 Graphic Designer Paul Davy (Paul Davy), there was only one choice.

Twenty years after first imagining it, Paul set out to cross Iceland from east to west by bicycle, carrying everything he needed to survive.

Sixteen days followed, 20°C sun and -8°C cold. Relentless headwinds, driving rain and remote highlands. A call to Mountain Rescue, chance encounters with strangers and a journey that unfolded far from that of his wildest dreams.

Norway…what a country. Beautiful clear water, delightful camp spots and massive cliffs yet to be explored by climbers. Feeling small paddling underneath them on a vast lake as part of the Telemarkscanale system.

Stage 4 of the Namib Race took competitors through the heart of the otherworldly Moon Valley of Namibia, filled with strange rocks and lunar landscapes. Plenty of ups and downs while navigating the rocks, and then entering the Swakop riverbed to connect with the Khan River.

"Despite intense heat exceeding 40C, everyone finished well before the cutoff times, an impressive feat worthy of some much-deserved rest at camp. Camp 5 is a special one, nestled between mountains in the Khan River valley, so everyone will have a peaceful and cozy rest tonight. The local team from Namibia put on a special celebration for competitors with a bonfire, traditional greeting, and plenty of dancing and singing around the fire."
