🫒 My olive oil has been rebranded! It’s the same oil and the same company but they have now passed the criteria to become regenerative olive oil ie their farming methods actively restore soil health, biodiversity and ecosystem function, rather than just sustaining it. 🫒 They harvest the olives by hand to keep the bird nests safe and then it is pressed at the co-operative mill down the road within a few hours of picking. 🫒 Other labels that apply to it are unfiltered (full of antioxidants), extra virgin, single origin, closed loop, chemical free and owned by the grower!

🫒 It’s delicious and remarkably good value too!

🐟🐟🐟This is a wee project which is appearing as a pop up exhibition in some of the shops on the High Street. As you can see, right up my street! SDGs are sustainable development goals, created by the UN of which there are 17. Peggy and Mathilda have chosen number 14 which is all about Seas and Oceans - Life Under the Water, and they have chosen to tell the plastic story. So sad that they have to learn this stuff - their reality and can only dream about clean water teeming with life! It’s only on for a week, so catch it if you can!

☕️ So here is where you can get the Kinross reuseable takeaway coffee cup!

The big launch will be at KLEO Farmer’s Market, Saturday 23rd May, at the Market Park. Tim Brown will be on hand to sign his art work! Also, there will be a free biscuit (courtesy of Rowena’s Kitchen Alchemy) with the first 30 sold.

The cup will be available from Heaven Scent Coffee Shop, The Kind Pantry, Tartan Kipper, Read and Relax and Pinkfoot Cafe, for £12.95

Discounts or extra loyalty points are available from Heaven Scent, Café98, Baynes, Premier, Read & Relax, Pinkfoot Cafe but do ask at other coffee outlets.

On average, a Scot uses 70 disposable coffee cups a year. Could we make it one cup every 10 years in Kinross-shire?

☕️ About the Kinross reuseable takeaway cup itself!

The striking ‘skyscape’ of Kinross-shire buildings is by Tim Brown, a local artist who meticulously followed through the design process to its printing on the cup. (Instagram - )

The cup is made of PLA (polylactic acid) a plastic derived in this case from sugar beet. It is heat proof, dishwasher proof, free from melamine and BPA (an oestrogen-like chemical). It will last years. It is not mixed with any other materials so at end of life, is easy to industrially compost. It will degrade in landfill but releases methane. The lid and heat cuff are made of silicon which can be melted and remoulded. It is an 8oz cup and comes in two colours-grey and pale beige. Most importantly it doesn’t taint the coffee!

We hope these credentials make it a viable alternative to disposable cups. Tomorrow I will post where and how to get it!

☕️ Introducing the Kinross reuseable takeaway coffee cup…..but more about that later……Here are a few facts!

In Scotland we throw away 40,000 disposable coffee cups a day! What was made for minutes of use, can take years to decompose. There is confusion on how to recycle them as they are made of composite materials and can’t go in the paper or plastic recycling bins. There are only 5 centres in the UK where they can be recycled. So less than 4% are recycled.

Better news tomorrow!

As predicted by my son…..the younger generation will come up with solutions! So good to see!
