Hill's Pick Your Own fruit farm

Hill's Pick Your Own fruit farm Our final day opening for 2025 is Monday 7th July, unfortunately we haven’t had the fruit this year. (The Pop up at Hills, NG228BU) What are the opening hours?

Ready-picked fruit can be purchased, when available, from our farm shop in Edingley during weekends. We are a very small field site with no additional facilities. Please follow signs and information provided and check our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates and FAQs as this is the only place with accurate information. There is not a booking system for our PYO. We have a pop up farm shop and c

afe in Edingley (Top of Edingley Hill, NG228BU) selling home baked cakes and fresh produce which is open Fridays-Sundays, 10am-4pm. Frequently asked questions:

1. In the main season we are open from 10am-5pm Wednesdays, then 10am-4pm Thursdays -Sundays, (Closed Mondays and Tuesdays). This may change according to weather or crop availability.

2. Whereabouts is the PYO site? Hill’s PYO soft fruit site is located on Corkhill lane, just off the A617 in Kirklington. NG22 8NW.

3. What can I pick? Available fruits are listed on the blackboard by the entrance. Check our Facebook/ Instagram pages for the current situation.

4. Where can I find the various crops? Staff will direct you to the fruit. There are different varieties available. For strawberries these are Symphony and Florence.

5. Can we use our own containers? Yes, just ask the staff to weigh them for you before you start picking – you may have to wait in line to do this if we are busy.

6. Do you supply containers? Yes, they are free. We have different sizes available and you can help yourself to one at the entrance where we have a market stall to weigh and pay for your fruit once picked.

7. Can we eat fruit while we pick? A sample is fine but please bear in mind that many Pick Your Own farms have closed because of loss of fruit.

8. Do I have to pay for all I pick? Yes. If you are worried about over picking, ask for an estimate of what your container will hold, before you start, or come back to the stall to weigh the punnet occasionally to see how you are getting on.

9. What is the best way to pick a strawberry? For maximum shelf life try to avoid handling the red flesh. Instead, pinch the stalk off between your thumbnail and forefinger. Leave the stalks in until just before serving. As with all fruits, pick only ripe ones – they taste better!

10. Can we go anywhere? Areas for picking are clearly identified, please ask a member of staff if you are unsure. Please remember that this is a working farm field and there are hazards!
-Ground may be uneven in places and there are water pipes for irrigation, so take care and watch your footing.
-Bees and other insects are always found here.
-Some plants e.g. gooseberries have spikes and nettles may be growing.
-Children are the responsibility of their parents/ guardians on the site. (See our risk assessment on site for further information)

11. Can we have a picnic? Picnics are not allowed in the Pick Your Own field as the grass area is for car parking.

12. Can I bring my dog? Unfortunately we don’t allow dogs on site for hygiene reasons and the soft fruit bushes being at ground level.

13. What facilities are there?
-Parking, water (for hand washing only) hand sanitiser, a portable toilet.

14. How do I pay? We accept payment by cash and credit/ debit card. Payment is made after picking your fruit at the market stall.

15. Do you accept coach parties? No. Unfortunately, we don’t have the car parking space or the facilities.

We are a small, family-run, soft-fruit site. We are open for fruit picking during the short summer season when the fruit is at its best. This is very much weather dependent and fruit-yield permitting. Unfortunately the fruit availability is ruled by nature, we can’t restock when it runs out!

We have been growing soft fruit since the 1980s and have different varieties of strawberries and raspberries available for you to pick. In addition, we have gooseberries and rhubarb. Redcurrants, blackcurrants and whitecurrants are available later in the season.

Our herd of Pedigree Shorthorn Cattle are reared organically on our farm in Edingley. We are part of the PFLA (Pasture For Life Association). Please find more information about this at our stall and how you can purchase our top quality beef.

Our page is the only site that we have control of and put information on. Please message us on here if you have any questions. Enjoy the summer fruits!
