Velfrey Vineyard

Velfrey Vineyard A family-run vineyard established in 2016 in the Pembrokeshire countryside, providing vineyard experiences and award-winning Welsh wines.
(1)

Velfrey Vineyard is looked after all year round by Andy and Fiona who moved to Pembrokeshire in 2014. Not long after they were followed to West Wales by their son Ryan who, along with his brother, suggested the idea of planting the vineyard. They were joined recently by Ryan’s fiancée Sophie who takes care of all the food that is served from the visitor lodge. Last but by no means least are the vi

neyard dogs Archie, Billy and Bash who you might be able to spot evidence of with all the stray tennis balls in the vines! Open Thursday to Saturday from mid-April right up until harvest in October. We offer vineyard tours at £15pp, starting at 11am and lasting approximately 90 minutes. Enjoy a unique grape to glass experience and learn about the vineyard from its establishment to the present day. Beginning with an indoor talk and visual presentation followed by a trip into the vineyard to see the vines and how they are cared for. The tour also includes a tasting of two of our wines. We advise pre-booking for our tours. Attendance for under 18’s is free but they must be accompanied by an adult. Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead. You can choose to accompany your tour with our Welsh grazing board that includes delicious Monmouthshire charcuterie, artisan cheeses from across West Wales, locally baked focaccia, chutneys and relishes from just up the road and moreish Welsh crackers and Mediterranean style sundries! The Welsh grazing boards are also available to be booked separately at £20pp.

Our adopt-a-vine packages have been an ever present since we got our first sparkling wine back all those years ago. Since we have more wines to offer and more varieties planted, we thought they needed a little revamp. ✨

Now available in three tiers - Still Wine, Sparkling and Deluxe – the packages all come with a newly designed certificate, a voucher for a tour for two and your name engraved on a slate tag that is placed on the wire by your vine. The Deluxe option also comes with two sparkling wine flutes. And on top of that, the packages run forever! So once purchased, the vine will always
carry your name.

Got a birthday coming up for a wine lover? The adopt-a-vines make a perfect gift.

It’s the end of August and we’ve finally had some rain. 🌧️

It was almost like you could hear nature have a little sigh of relief, the grass is looking a little greener and the flowers look perky again. Our pond level has dropped dramatically which you can see in our reel, meaning we’ve had fewer visitors this year 🦆

The mature vines have been fine, thanks to their well established tap roots and healthy soils. They’ve put out less vegetative growth due to the persistent dry weather but the grapes are looking fantastic and the canopy is nicely balanced.

The newer plantings haven’t been as happy with the two dry years back to back. But this should have forced their roots deep in search of moisture so should stand them in great stead for the years to come.

Introducing our first red wine, Coch 🍷

In 2025 we partnered with a Carmarthenshire vineyard to help with their crop and we’re very pleased with the result.

The wine is made from 100% Rondo - the same variety we planted for the first time at Velfrey in 2025.
It opens with vibrant notes of ripe cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant on both the nose and palate, complemented by subtle spice and soft, supple tannins. Juicy, smooth and beautifully balanced, with a fresh finish.

What a difference a week makes! 🍇

These two photos show the progress of véraison in our pinot noir over the last week.

All this warm weather has brought the grapes on at a rapid rate and it’s looking like another early harvest for vintage 2026. 😯

Holy moly it's been hot!! 🌡

Whilst we've been melting away, the vines have been in their element and cracking on, but you can see the difference this prolonged heat has had on the grass and trees in the pictures. The first is from the beginning of June and the second was last week 🫠

We've not been the most consistent with posting for the past few months, with Sophie off on maternity it's been hectic being down to the 3 of us, but now she's back we can hopefully keep you all a bit more in the know!

So as a catch-up, Fiona's written a blog post, click the link below to read 😄

All this warm weather has got the vines in a great mood and they're carrying some gorgeous fruit! 🍇

Can you spot the difference between the two varieties? Seyval tends to have larger bunches with bigger berries whereas the Pinot Noir has a smaller bunch size and more compact berries.

Fruit set has been really good this year with the prolonged dry weather, 2026 looks like it's going to be a great vintage! 🍾

Taking a trip down memory lane to Welsh Wine Week where we were delighted to welcome Grove of Narberth's Cathryn Bell and a group of journalists she was hosting at the Grove for a wine-focused press visit during Welsh Wine Week. 🥂

It was a pleasure to share the story of how Velfrey Vineyard came to be, talk through our approach in the vineyard, and, of course, pour a selection of our wines. Our guests also enjoyed a sneak preview of our brand-new winery ahead of the 2026 harvest.

But if we're being honest… it was Bash, the vineyard dog, who really stole the show! 🐾🍷
