I’ve walked past this tree multiple times a day for nearly two years and didn’t spot that it was an apple tree until today. Finn being the well trained Labrador that he is, has delivered apples (to hand) multiple times and I could not figure out where he was getting them.

The previous owner planted over 5000 trees on this property and this is the only one that provides fruit. Finally a tree that is useful!

Google Lens has helpfully confirmed that this is a tree and that its fruit is some kind of apple. I’m no clearer on the variety 😂 guesses on a postcard!

Someone was a little impatient this morning and clearly couldn’t wait for me to put the feeder in the run! 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Welcome to the 19 acre project!

This is our opportunity to share with you our entire journey living in Wales rather than just focusing on the holiday let which is currently on hold.

Thanks to for the fab new logo.

Follow along on our journey while I try my best to balance restoring a 19 acre smallholding with a demanding day job! 😅

A quick update from me on why we’ve been so quiet lately.

Stay tuned for further updates!

Did you watch the latest season of Clarkson's farm where he sent a drone up looking for skylark nests? Here's what he was looking for. I saw these chicks on the path just up from the house today.

In the UK they are on the red list as a conservation concern and I can see why! The nest is in the centre of a path under a tree so not the most protected! They are lovely though 😍

When it feels like 38 degrees and your on a mountain in Wales something has gone wrong somewhere. Our biggest challenge today has been keeping the chickens cool. Because we aren't all friends yet, we have the pekins next to the toilet, Green and Purple next to the (unlit) fire and Tiny next to the shoe rack 😂🤣

I'm not gonna lie, Green is pretty pi**ed at me, but this is necessary in order to keep them alive.

How are you coping?

Purple update.

She's had a course of antibiotics and while she is doing better, I know that she can't recover from this. So I'm making sure that everyday she's with us she feels the wind in her feathers, the grass under her feet and gets to eat her favourite snacks. That's a life she wasn't promised, but is definitely what she deserves. 💜

We've been a bit quiet the last few weeks as we've had a lot going on, including two poorly hens. No one can tell me what's wrong with Purple so we're keeping a close eye on her.

Unfortunately we lost Yellow on Tuesday due to water belly. If you've had chickens before you'll know that water belly is incurable. While rescuing ex battery hens has been really rewarding, no one really talks about how hard it can be. You collect scruffy poorly looking birds who begin to flourish. However, they often come with underlying conditions due to how poorly they are bred. You throw everything at them to improve their lives and their health but it's still not enough. It's heartbreaking.

Yellow joins Red who we unfortunately lost a couple of months ago. Sleep tight Yellow 💛❤️
