Our Heifer Rearing Manager, Liz Lunn, was invited to speak alongside client Leanne Bertram, sharing practical experience and best practice in calf rearing, colostrum management, and hygiene.

These events are a good opportunity for exchanging knowledge and supporting continuous improvement 😀

🐄 Getting the dry period right!
Dr. Rosie Armstrong, our vet nutritionist spoke to Dairy Farmer magazine about getting the basics right before and building your nutritional program to suit. Some of her key points were:-

🐮Be guided by your own specific goals and set up
🐮Enable dedicated close up groups if you can
🐮Understand the basics and benefits of cow comfort
🐮Research supports a strong ROI on heat mitigation
🐮Focus on a controlled energy and look at protein mobilisation, good mineralisation and amino acids
🐮Consider a stress free simple approach through mineral binders like X-Zelit

Nutrition can help with many of the key challenges associated with the dry period. However, for long-term success it is important to get the basics right first and then build upwards towards the best nutritional approach

🐄 Our heifer rearing manager, Liz Lunn (Newman), spoke at the colostrum and hygiene course for Scottish Women in Dairy last week. The day was hosted by our client and award-winning herd manager, Leanne Bertram, at Mains of Boquhan - Graham's family dairy.

Attendees heard from Liz, Leanne, Connie Yates from Kersia, Alana from Forthvalley Vets and Morven from SCCL, making it a well-rounded and highly practical session.
