John and April are taking part in this years' St John's Hospice China Trek in honour of their neice Rachel and nephew Dennis. In true "fudge it" style they will be covering 6000km on different parts of the great wall over 5 days in September.
Brades are sponsoring the trek kit and this was launched last week. We're very proud of them. A link to their sponsorship page can be found in our bio.

A wonderful day yesterday spent in Oxfordshire as part of the GAIL's craft community lunch. So proud to be part of this network of small craft suppliers that are all renowned for quality, excellent in farming and small batch production. The attention to detail GAILs weave through their business is commendable and we're so grateful to be a part of that.

Quality and consistency are two main aims for us here at Brades. Our customers want a milk that tastes amazing but also performs consistently. Fats and proteins need to remain high and there are many factors that can cause these to dip. Because we only use milk from our farm and Dan's and is traceable throughout our whole supply chain, we are able to fully segregate our supply and test each batch to ensure that the quality remains consistently high. We keep a keen eye on the figures ( we send a test pot off which is collected that day and get the results back the following morning)and can ensure that if these move at all we can identify the issue and correct it long before our customers would have an issue.
We also retain samples of each batch to follow it's journey. Ensuring that the microfoam, velvety texture and taste are again at the level our customers depend upon.
This was yesterdays sample and the results were in my inbox at 6am this morning. 😊

3rd cut of the year before the rains start back up again at the weekend. No one understands the climate challenges best than the farmers that need to adapt and work in these conditions!

How's everyone coping in the heat? 🔥☀️
and for Brades more importantly how are the cows coping in the heat?
In general cows are built for cooler climates and aren't too fond of heat. They thrive best in temperatures up to about 15 degrees. Temperatures above 20 degrees can cause heat stress which can be really stressful for the cows and will absolutely affect the quality of the milk they produce.
At Brades our cows lay on sand beds which helps to keep them cool in hot temperatures and also keeps them comfortable. They have access to high quality nutritious food all year round ensuring they have a diet that keeps them happy and we have a sophisticated fan system keeping them cool. All factors that impact protein levels in the milk that we depend on to keep our barista milk consistent and top quality. At the end of the day happy cows produce amazing milk and putting the cows first ensures that we can continue to do this for our customers. They also have full troughs of cold fresh water which incidentally when tested has been shown to have similar mineral content to evian water! ....but that's for another post! 🐮

From the wildlife camera at High Barn at Brades. We think the second bird is an owlet. We have bird boxes all around the farm. The birds play a big role at the farm and are a good indicator of biodiversity as they are sensitive to environmental change, you can observe them and if numbers are increasing or declining it indicates the health of eco systems around the farm. We have huge numbers of swallows too that are not only beautiful to watch but they are great for keeping the numbers of flies that bother the cows down.

 Day 1, what a beautiful turnout! ☀️❤️
