🌟 LIMOUSIN TRADE PEAKS AT 9,200GNS AT BALLYMENA’S AUTUMN SALE 🌟

There was a strong trade for pedigree Limousin bulls at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s regional Autumn show and sale, held at Ballymena Livestock Mart on Friday the 23rd of October 2026.

Trade peaked at 9,200gns on three occasions, with 20 bulls changing hands to average £6,274 per head and a further three breeding females selling to average £4,733.

It was a particularly successful evening for Joan Gilliland and Kim Montgomery, Muckamore, County Antrim, who secured two of the three joint top prices for bulls from their Ballyrobin herd.

🏆 Borderway Agri Expo – National Limousin Calf Show 🏆

Judge - Mr Thomas Illingworth, Glenrock Limousin Herd.

Thomas runs the renowned Glenrock herd based near Lockerbie. The herd was founded in 1982 in Yorkshire by David and his son Stephen and has been based in South West Scotland since 1995. Thomas is now the third-generation Illingworth to run the herd. The herd consists of 60 breeding females between cows and in calf heifers at present, with bulls sold privately at Stirling and at Carlisle.

The herd has enjoyed considerable success this year winning the Scottish Grand Prix, Reserve Limousin Champion at the Royal Highland Show and the Great Yorkshire Show. They also interbreed success lifting Reserve Junior Interbreed Champion honours at the Highland Show and going one step further clinching the Junior Interbreed Championship at the Great Yorkshire Show. In August this year the herd had a production sale of females at Carlisle selling to 28,000gns which is the highest price for a Limousin female so far this year.

No stranger to the show ring, Thomas is a strong supporter of showing at calf shows. We look forward to welcoming Thomas to Borderway Mart tomorrow for the inaugural National Pedigree Limousin Calf Show.

💥 SOLID COMMERCIAL TRADE FOR LIMOUSIN AT STIRLING 💥

- Top price 16,000gns
- 39 bulls sold to average £7,829
- 72% clearance rate
- 95% of bulls sold to commercial herds
- 79% of bulls sold between 4,000gns – 9,000gns

Commercial demand across a good range of budgets underpinned the British Limousin Cattle Society’s Autumn Bull Sale at United Auctions, Stirling, on Monday 19th October 2026. Following on from the success of the Society’s sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle earlier at the weekend, it was clear that Limousin genetics continue to dominate the sector.

With buyers looking for scope, good locomotion and easy-calving EBVs, the sale peaked at 16,000gns. 39 bulls found new homes to average £7,829 and a clearance rate of 72%. 95% headed to commercial homes underlining the continued confidence in the breed to deliver in this sector.

The British Limousin Cattle Society’s October Bull Sale took place on Saturday 17th October 2026 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, attracting pedigree breeders and commercial producers in search of quality Limousin genetics.

A strong selection of bulls was on offer, catering to a wide range of farming systems and providing plenty of choice for both commercial and pedigree breeders. With 61% of bulls sold selling between 4,000 – 9,000gns, bulls were available at affordable competitive prices offering options to suit a wide range of budgets.
