Hay Wines are independent wine merchants and importers based in the medieval market town of Ledbury stocking small producers dedicated to creating wines and spirits of expression, vibrancy and quality. Founded in 2009 as a wholesale business in Hay on Wye, we supplied quality wines to Pubs & Restaurants, our first shop opened in November 2009, we operate Retail, Wholesale, Events and Online business’s from Ledbury. The company is managed by Jane and Chris, together with their enthusiast team of wine professionals. With over 75 years experience in the wine merchants trade, the Hay Wines team brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and expertise to its customers. Our portfolio is constantly updated and improved, always offering an eclectic and unique product mix to our customers. With over 1,200 wines, whiskies, spirits, liqueurs, beers, ciders and perries, supplying wholesale solutions to restaurants, pubs, hotels and wine bars mainly around the counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire, Powys and The Cotswolds. Hay Wines also has an extensive range of organic, biodynamic, natural, vegan and low sulphite wines.

WHAT’S ON TASTE IN THE SHOP ON THIS BEAUTIFUL AUTUMN DAY?
Hello lovely people! Don’t you just love the seasons?! The best thing is no matter what time of year it is there’s always w**e!!
Today we head to Argentina and South Africa with our tastebuds.
First up for whites - the Southern Right Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa. As recommended by one mr. Tom Gilby, this is gorgeous - Stone fruit and green apple on the nose and palate, coupled with refreshing acidity herbaceous notes and saline minerality from being so close to the coast. Excellent structure!

For reds from Argentina we have the Amalaya Malbec. Bursting with red berries and black cherries on the nose joined by a hint of dark chocolate, coffee and spice on the palate with enough acidity to pair beautifully with lamb!

TODAY’S IN-SHOP TASTING WE’RE HEADING TO FRANCE WITH OUR TASTEBUDS!!
Happy weekend lovely people! Well…as we hurtle through this year without any brakes we’re taking any opportunity we can to savour the moment and we have two w**es on taste worth slowing down for!

First up for whites we have Jeremy’s amazing discovery a truly stunning Viognier from producers Dauvergne and Ranvier. With the vineyard sited adjacent to the famous Condrieu appellation it benefits from the climate and terroir creating a high quality w**e for a great price. Slightly floral on the nose, with peach and apricot that intensifies on the palate. Full in the mouth and fruity lifted by refreshing acidity and extended by minerality on the finish.

For reds - a beautifully expressive Brouilly Combiaty from Chateau des Tours. Classic Gamay from old vines creating a richer style but still very much a light mouth feel - bursting with Raspberry, Strawberry and hint of red cherry on the nose and palate. Fine tannins with fruit lasting well into the finish.

WE’RE MATCHING W**ES WITH THE AUTUMN SUN!! TODAY’S IN SHOP TASTING😊
Well hello there lovely people! We’re heading to Sardinia and Spain with our tastebuds for two gorgeous w**es Autumnal with a warm but fresh mouthfeel.
First up for whites we have a gorgeous Ala Blanca Vermentino. Tropical fruit and classic pear on the nose and palate joined by citrus notes refreshing acidity to balance the dull mouth feel and a lovely almond minerality really extending the finish.
For reds a really stunning Spanish Petit Verdot from producers Finca Antigua. There’s so much complexity here beginning with hedgerow fruit especially blackberries on the nose with just a hint of earthiness to offset the abundant black fruit notes. Merest hint of lilac and spice on the palate - just beautifully balanced and elegant throughout.

SATURDAY IN-SHOP TASTING – WE’RE GOING DOWN UNDER!!

Happy weekend lovely people! Yes…our tastebuds are heading to Australia for two absolutely gorgeous w**es.

First up for whites we have a Village Chardonnay from Victoria’s oldest vineyard – Yerring Station. An abundance of lakes and rivers means that Victoria has a cooler climate producing more elegant and refined w**es. This chardonnay has peach and citrus on the nose and palate yielding quickly to a present minerality and vanilla from the oaking.

For reds we head to Langhorne Creek, another w**e-growing area with provenance for a Bull Ant Cabernet – Merlot blend. Definitely Cab Sauv dominant, this rich, warm mouth-feel w**e is bursting with blackberries and blackcurrants on the nose yielding to soft tannins and mocha on the palate.

TWO W**ES FROM THE SLOPES OF VESUVIUS ON TASTE IN THE SHOP TODAY!!
Hello folks - our amazing sommelier Michele continues to do us proud with his discoveries of Italian w**e. Both on taste today are from the Campania region - volcanic, refined and erupting with flavour (sorry…couldn’t resist!)

First up for whites we have a truly stunning Falanghina from producers I Colli Del Sannio. With elegance throughout, floral and citrus on the nose with hints of apple and pineapple on the palate. Refreshing acidity with a touch of herbaceous and saline quality extending the finish.

For reds a Cantine Cicinelli created with 100% Aglianico grapes. Bursting with red fruit on the nose and palate with raspberries being the most prominent.
Balanced with gentle tannins and a tiny hint of sulphur adding to the structure. Medium bodied, dry and beautifully elegant.

NEW ITALIAN W**ES ON TASTE TODAY!!
Happy weekend lovely people! We have been waiting an age for these w**es to arrive but it’s been worth it. Two of them are on taste today - the pup ain’t for sale😉

First up for whites we have a truely superb Gavi from producers Gavalussa. Floral notes and minerality on the nose. Hint of stone fruit, melon and citrus. refined and elegant - for the price it’s amazing!

For reds we have a gorgeous Negroamaro from the Salento region of Puglia. It’s great to see the revival of these ancient grape varietals from Southern Italy. Plum and dark cherry on the nose and palate yielding to cacao with a touch of herbs and spice on the finish. Juicy with a warm mouth feel and subtle tannins.
