The biggest month in the beer calendar is here, prost! 🍻

As a brewery we’ve always embraced tradition, history and community. There’s nothing that exemplifies that much more than the world’s largest beer festival, Oktoberfest.

This year’s release is an evolution of tradition; a classic Märzen at its core but softened to 4.6% and brightened with Solero hops. A perfectly pintable take on the festival favourite.

You may have spotted it on tap in a few places already but it’ll take centre stage in the Oktoberfest celebrations happening in our bars across the UK!

Kicking off on the 19th September at both NORTHERN MONK REFECTORY AND GARDEN 🌸 and NORTHERN MONK REFECTORY // MCR with all the traditional festbier options and a sneaky Sierra Nevada appearance. The Hanging Bat and Northern Monk Refectory York will follow up the week after, with a load of Masterclasses in York’s Tasting Room. The team at Northern Monk at Darley Street Market will be teaming up with the local CAMRA branch and THE NORTHERN MARKET will be rounding things out on October 2nd for the final weekend of festivities!

So wherever you are across the north, we’ll see you for a stein!

✊ A charity making a huge difference in Yorkshire needs our help!

For over 35 years, Pyramid Of Arts has supported people with learning disabilities and autism to discover the arts and grow as artists.
The charity has been supported by the Northern Monk Foundation since 2024. As part of this partnership, we’ve hosted a brewery tour for the artists, and they were commissioned to redesign old beer tap handles. They also developed their own can designs and imagined what their perfect pubs might look like.

Now, after funding cuts and rising costs, Pyramid is at a turning point. They are in the final push to raise ÂŁ20,000 to protect their future programme and continue providing life-changing creative opportunities.
Your donation, no matter the size, will make a difference.

We enter the bank holiday weekend, and the last weekend of the school holidays for those with kids, ready to dance, hike, picnic and Keep the Faith in the rain.

We need it after all. 🌧️🎉🌦️

THE OFS EXPERIMENTS CONTINUE 🧪

This month, we’ve changed up our usual hopping process to explore how adding hops post-filtration affects flavour intensity.

August’s Fresh From release is bursting with sweet peach, caramelised pineapple and juicy Valencia orange thanks to Dolcita™ and Dolcita™ Prysma. Prysma is a liquid hop product that can be added at any stage, so for the first time ever, we’ve held it back until post-filtration to preserve as many of the flavour compounds as possible, rather than losing them earlier in the brewing process.

We have it on the good authority of Brian that the experiment has been a major success! This 5.6% pale ale is dripping with tropical and candied fruit flavour, which has also been backed up by the stellar results of yesterday’s taste panel.

Try it for yourself and let us know what you think.

Hear ye, hear ye.

Today is International Beer Day, so it feels only right to celebrate one of the places that’s been doing it longer than almost anyone else.

At Northern Monk, we absolutely love a pub. So we made the pilgrimage to England’s oldest free house - The Royal Standard of England.

And what a beauty it is.

You don’t need much imagination to picture yourself sat around these tables with a flagon of ale, sharing stories with knights, pilgrims, merchants, drovers, alewives and the occasional highwayman.

Still pouring great beer today too, with taps from brilliant local breweries including Rebellion Brewery and Windsor and Eton Brewery.

The sign outside reads:

“For over 900 years this hostelry has been known throughout the land for giving shelter and hospitality to the wayfarer.

Go in peace. Go gently, pilgrim.”

A message we thoroughly endorse.

Join us in raising a pint to our favourite pubs this International Beer Day.

It’s Yorkshire D̶a̶y̶ weekend and we are beyond stoked to release a beer that has a very special place in our hearts to celebrate.

7 years ago we began an adventure with Yorkshire’s prodigal son Hazeoutdoors. This journey has seen us climb Ben Nevis to brew a beer at the summit, go on wild camping adventures on the forests, mountains and shores of our beloved Yorkshire. Not to mention the pubs and pints - there were a few of those too.

What could be a fitting and worthy tribute to such a journey. Well, Hazy was clear - “it’s gonna have to be Yorkshire”

Here we have it - A Yorkshire Stingo.

Rich, dark and deceptively strong, this old-school Stingo is deep amber-brown with notes of toffee, dried fruit and a warming, malt-driven finish - built slow, just like the friendship it’s raising a glass to.

To commemorate this milestone. Hazey undertook a pilgrimage on foot between our Northern Monk Refectory sites. Find out more and watch the video of that quest on his YouTube channel - links can be found Hazeoutdoors

The beer can be found at www.northernmonk.com and your favourite local beer emporium.

It’s been a privilege and an honour Hazeoutdoors 🫡

As we continue to celebrate and shine a light on some of our favourite indie brewers, there was only one place to go next. We thought about switching things up. Flipping the script. Keeping you all guessing. But then we thought naaaaah. This month we had to highlight the one and only, the brewery we want to be when we grow up - .

The commitment to quality at Taylor’s is second to none. No shouting the loudest, no chasing trends, just flying the flag for the history and heritage of family brewers making incredible beer. And it all takes place just down the road in Keighley.

There’s no doubt that Timothy Taylor’s have built a legacy that will stand the test of time, and it was an honour to work with the team on Northern Rising. Brian will always remember (remember might be a slight exaggeration) his stag do at the brewery, and a pint of Landlord will always hold a special place in our hearts.

James Butler’s been a Northern Monk Patron since day one. Stoked to have him back for our Faith in Futures series, his latest design is up there with the best. Over to James Butler for the story…

“Some of you keen-eyed folks might have already seen these on your local Morrisons | Fresh Food & Recipes shelves, maybe even in the fridge at , or more likely, seen me showing off on socials about it. This is the most recent - and absolutely the most colourful - piece I’ve made for NORTHERN MONK… or anything else for that matter.

The Faith in Futures range is such a beautiful project. The people who designed these cans before me really raised the bar. It would be daunting to think on *that* too much, so I launched into chats with Russ over what the theme could be. I’m a massive fantasy nerd, so when he threw out “A dragon? Or I dunno, maybe a wizard?” I immediately stopped listening and mentally ticked off both boxes. Dragon vs. Wizard it is. Game on.

I did listen to the last thing he said though as someone who specialises on black on white hard contrast monochrome illustrations: “The ones that look best on the shelves are the brightest colours”.
Coooooool cool cool. Cool.

What followed was a super enjoyable re-clutching at straws of colour theory I’ve presumably absorbed through my years of tattooing, and maybe some old college art classes, to try and make something that could stand up in this incredible series.

Also, hopefully, scratch that little nerdy itch in us all that loves to see a massive, fire breathing dragon who may or may not be about to get hadouken’d to smithereens by a mysterious, hooded, staff-wielding figure who I absolutely imagined as myself throughout the drawing process. That’s fantasy for you.”
