SIX years ago today, I planted my first trays of microgreens in my brand new, sparkly Grow House! 💚 I never celebrate the build, but this year I am! 🎉 I love it!! It's in our garden, I own it outright and it enabled my little microgreens business in Leeds to expand - to grow 5 times more fresh food for people locally and pay me a good living at the same time 💚
I built Nell's business up over three years in our conservatory during the autumn, winter & spring times and in our garden greenhouse over the summers. It was long enough to get established, build a steady (and brilliant!) customer base and give me the confidence that a mini expansion would work 🌿 It did, and it was the best decision I ever made throughout the past 9 years of Nell's!
I initially looked at units in Leeds to expand into. But they were expensive, not great quality and meant Id have to be travelling there daily to look after my plants.
So in 2020, I took the plunge. We had our old, leaky 1960s pebbledash garage demolished and a new Grow House built in its place. It's small, perfectly formed and allows me to run my microgreens business from home year-round 💚
It also makes great, productive use from a space that wasnt really being used on land we already own. I love the idea of that!
