Volunteer Buddy Scheme - Support Staffordshire
Do you like to help people in in and around Leek and the Moorlands? Are you already active at a social gardening group, attend a regular poetry group, enjoy a fun catch up over a lunch club or like a good Knit and Natter?
FOCUS
We are looking for existing volunteers already active in their community at groups, clubs, societies. Whether that be volunteering at a coffee morning, allotment group, a walking group, knitting or crochet, games group, poetry, arts class anything that is an organised regular event. You may be just what we are looking for!
AIM
Our aim is to support people in the community who feel vulnerable, anxious or uncomfortable who wish to attend a group or activity by supporting and accompanying them to a community group they might enjoy or want to re-connect with but are afraid to go alone. Who knows you may already go at a chosen group of a client!
PURPOSE
Buddies can help a person feel more settled in a group environment, reduce that anxiety and feel less alone at the club they’ve chosen to attend. It might be help them cross the threshold into the hall or room for the first time, sit with them and meet new like minded people or help them settle into that group. If you are already active in that group you would help them settle, show them the ropes (as it were!) things as simple as where toilets are can really help someone feel more comfortable and encourage them to attend again, which in turn hopefully can then help build sustainability to the group.
If you are already in a group and feel you would like to find out more how you can be a buddy (in fact you probably already are!) and feel you can help build that bridge to reduce that awkwardness for someone please get in touch on [email protected]
