As we pass the shop onto new ownership, we couldn’t help but look back at where it all began.

Thanks to the internet, we were able to find this newspaper clipping from Wednesday 9th April 1986, published in the Kirkintilloch Herald, announcing that the chip shop was under new management and opening that very day.

This was within our first year of marriage and before our son Paul was born — little did we know then that we would still be here all these years later.

We hope that our grandchildren’s children will be able to see the chippy still standing many years from now.

It’s hard to believe how quickly the time has passed… where did the years go!

To all our wonderful customers, and friends, as many of you may already know, after 40 wonderful years, the time has come for us to hang up our overalls.

From the 12th of April, Olivia’s will be passing into new hands under Matthew’s ownership.

Olivia will now be stepping into retirement, while Billy will continue working at the shop for the foreseeable future, helping Matthew settle in before he fully retires next year.

It’s hard to put into words just how much these past 40 years have meant to us. This shop has been at the heart of our lives, and all of you have been a part of that.

We’ve watched families grow, shared laughs across the counter, and built friendships that we will treasure forever. You’ve supported us through everything, and for that, we are forever grateful.

We will miss seeing your faces every day more than we can say, but we’ll carry you all with us in our hearts, along with so many happy memories.

We’d love for you to share your favourite stories, photos, or memories of the shop over the years, which would mean the world to us.

We’re pleased to be leaving the shop in good hands, and we hope Olivia’s continues to be a special part of the community for many years to come.
