I’m absolutely delighted to have been invited to be part of the judging panel for the very first Shetland’s Hero Awards! Celebrating the incredible people who make a difference in our community every single day.

These awards shine a light on the unsung heroes of Shetland, the people who quietly give their time, support others, go the extra mile and make our communities stronger, often without expecting any recognition in return. 💙

Being involved in judging the nominations has been a real privilege. There are so many inspiring stories of kindness, dedication, generosity and community spirit and it’s a wonderful reminder of just how many ameesin people we have across Shetland.

A huge well done to everyone who was nominated, being recognised by your community is something to be incredibly proud of. 👏

I’m really looking forward to seeing the first-ever Shetland’s Hero Awards and celebrate these remarkable individuals and the difference they make.

PUFFIN POOERS WANTED!

Help us make Shetland's most famous treat for Christmas.

Island Larder is looking for 4 keen Puffin Pooers to help us stock up for the Christmas rush.

What you'll be doing:

✅ Making our famous Puffin and Shetland Pony Poo
✅ Working as part of a friendly team
✅ Learning food production skills in a real growing business

What we're looking for:
Aged 15 or over
Reliable and willing to work
Happy to get stuck in
Able to work quickly without cutting corners
Good attention to detail and quality standards

We have targets to meet before Christmas, so you'll need to be speedy, focused and proud of producing the best Poo possible!

Traditional Scottish Tablet is a sweety that takes a long time to perfect.
Boil it too long and it ‘catches’, don’t boil it long enough and it is sugary! Mix it too much and it crumbles, but don’t mix it and it burns… it’s just as well we are pros here at island larder, we make 4 pots a day minimum so you can trust us 👩‍🍳 and we love making it, the smell fills the shop with the most buttery, toffee, sweet smell! Yum!

This was such a fun day, meeting Tony and to be involved with Loganairs series showcasing the Highlands and Islands that they fly to and from ✈️

Akshay Borges made us a delicious Scallop Curry too with the freshest shellfish out there! Shetland is asum!
