We have calves on the farm almost all year round so we have a constant supply of beef for the farm shop. Lamb and mutton are a different story however.
We lamb later than others, and outside, so our new season lamb doesn’t start until the autumn. This does cause problems, especially at the moment when we are almost sold out of our frozen cuts.
Claire, Matthew and Scott have hatched a plan for some of our ewes to have lambs earlier in the year so we can have a more consistent supply. This meant that the tups were put out with some sheep last week. This is what they’ve been waiting for all year and after a brief hesitation they certainly ran off enthusiastically!
