The sunflowers are growing fast. Week two and already the rows are really starting to come alive!

One thing we hear time and time again from parents is how lovely it is to visit somewhere that simply gives children room to be children.

Room to run. Room to climb. Room to dig. Room to explore.

Our giant sandpit, ride-on tractors, bale mountains, mazes, barley walk, sunflower field and wildflower field mean there is always something new to discover.

Because everything is spread out across acres of countryside, families can enjoy the day at their own pace without feeling crowded or rushed.

Many families with younger children also tell us they love the flexibility of our Summer Passes, where they can just pop back again and again throughout the summer for a few hours as and when everyone just needs to get out of the house for a couple of hours!

Some days, a full day out is perfect, other days having the option to visit little and often can make all the difference.

If you've never heard of Lichfield Maize Maze before, here's the short version of how it all started.

A few years ago, sat around our kitchen table with a cup of tea, Richard and I had a slightly mad idea. What if we planted a giant maze in one of our fields and opened the farm to visitors?

Fast forward a few years and that little idea has somehow grown into an award-winning family business that welcomes thousands of visitors every summer and autumn.

What hasn't changed is why we do it.

We wanted to create somewhere families and friends could spend quality time together outdoors. Somewhere with space to run, space to explore, space to switch off from busy everyday life and reconnect with nature.

Everything you see here has been built one step at a time by our family (with a lot of input from our three young children - especially when it comes to testing new ice cream flavours!) and our fantastic team.

We still spend most days juggling farming, second jobs, family life, weather forecasts, endless lists and cups of tea, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

We're looking forward to welcoming you to our beautiful little corner of Staffordshire this summer.

One of our favourite things about running Lichfield Maize Maze is seeing grandparents introducing a whole new generation to some of the simple pleasures in life that they enjoyed growing up.

Fresh air. Open countryside. A homemade picnic. The maze to explore. Stickers and map reading. Wildflowers to pick. Ice cream enjoyed sitting in the sunshine. The sounds and rhythms of nature.

Many of our visitors come with three (sometimes even four!) generations all enjoying the day together, and because everything is outdoors and spread across such a large area, everyone can enjoy the day at their own pace.

Some grandparents happily tackle the giant maze. Others find a shady spot with a cup of tea and a flapjack whilst the grandchildren race off to conquer the mini maze, bale mountains or giant sandpit.

There is no right or wrong way to spend your visit.

Just plenty of opportunities to enjoy quality time together and make the most of the summer holidays.

We had a few enquires about our Summer Season Passes as Father's Day Gifts, and decided to launch them a little early.

Such a great idea for Father's and Grandfathers alike. So, if the grandad in your life is one of those who genuinely loves a proper day out with the grandchildren, with lots of things to do (and a ready to hand supply of yummy ice cream!), this one is for him!

It’s British Flowers Week (15th-21st June) 🌼🌸🌻

A little look back at some of our sunflowers and wildflowers from last summer.

From the first seeds sown in spring to the flowers bursting into bloom in summer, these patches of colour bring so much life to the farm. They’re enjoyed by our visitors, but just as importantly by the bees, butterflies and countless other pollinators that depend upon them.

We always plant far more than we could ever pick, ensuring there’s plenty left behind for nature to enjoy too.

There’s something rather special about seeing a field alive with flowers, buzzing bees and fluttering butterflies, and we can’t wait to share it with you again this summer.

One question we've already started receiving is whether our Summer Passes (that we introduced for the first time last year) will be returning this year....

The answer is YES!

If you're the sort of family that likes popping in for a couple of hours, coming back with grandparents another day, visiting the sunflower field when it first flowers and then returning again a few weeks later, a Summer Pass is exactly what you need.

Some visitors spend whole days here. Others prefer shorter visits around nap times, meal times or other holiday plans.

One of last year's visitors just popped down with her favourite book once or twice a week and found a quiet spot in our wildflower field to have a few hours of head space away from her busy week.

Summer Passes simply give you that flexibility.

We'll be sharing more details very soon, but we wanted to give you a little heads-up as we know many of you have been waiting to hear.
