Woodfen Honey

Our cherry tree at 32 Woodfen Road, is being taken down today, as it has now become unsafe. Typically cherry trees last 40 to 50 years and ours was planted by our daughter Tabi 40 years ago when she was 2. We'll be sorry not to see the blossom in the spring, but are looking forward to what we can now do with the front garden and how we can use the wood from the tree.

A very Happy Christmas and season's greetings to all of our customers. Thank you for your support and continued custom. May 2026 bring you peace and plenty.

The bees are now tucked up in their hives enjoying the honey they collected in September. September was unusually warm, so they continued foraging and collected a lot of honey, which we left on the hives. In the spring the queens will start to lay again and the workers will once again be foraging for nectar, which will become our 2026 honey.

In the meantime we still have plenty honey for sale at the stall at 32 Woodfen Road CB6 1JP.

Just to let you know that we have plenty of honey on the stall outside 32 Woodfen Road CB6 1JP.

While there are daytime closures to Woodfen Road (for pavement repairs), if you are coming by car it's best to approach by Parson's Lane and Gilbert Road. It's then a short walk to the honey stall.

The bees have been productive in September and now have plenty of honey stores for the coming winter. At this time of year the queens will stop laying so many eggs and the bees will mainly stay in the hives - and eat the honey they have stored. In the spring as the days lengthen and the temperature warms the queens will resume laying, and the workers will begin foraging for 2026 honey.

In the meantime we have plenty of honey in jars waiting to go on your shelves, or toast, or in a hot drink. Enjoy.

Cut Comb Honey.

From our last harvest we took some cut comb honey. These are a section of the honeycomb straight from the hive, with no processing at all. There is honey and some wax in the container.

We're doing a trial, and have a small number available at £7 each. When they're gone they're gone - until the next honey harvest.

Honey Tasting

Sunday 13th July 11:00 to 13:00.

Come and taste the difference between honey from different seasons.

We will have our '25 summer honey in jars - it's waiting to be extracted at the moment.

Come along and meet the beekeepers. Also see some of the equipment that we use.

The house and garden will be open as part of Cambridge Open Studios, which you are welcome to visit while you are here.

This lovely cuddly visitor enjoyed sheltering in the Honey Shop on Woodfen Road today, but somebody must be missing her/him!

Unfortunately someone stole the contents of our honesty box and some honey from outside our house last night.

We still have honey outside 32 Woodfen Road CB6 1JP, but ask that you please put the cash through the letter box.

If you need change we are often in, so please ring the bell.

We are likely to leave less honey out, so if you want more than a couple of jars please message us and we can put extra out for you.

We've collected our first honey harvest of the year. So our Spring Honey for sale outside 32 Woodfen Road CB6 1JP.

At the moment it is runny, but will probably set. All honey sets if there is more glucose than fructose in it. Typically our spring honey does, but this year has been a little different, so who knows.

Sadly someone stole the contents of our honesty box and some jars of honey last night. So we are asking that you please put money through the letter box. If you need change we are often in, so please ring the bell.

The picture shows a complete frame of capped honey as it is when we take it out of the hive. There is typically about 3lb of honey in each frame. We remove the capping and extract the honey using a centrifuge.
