Pumpkins will last a very long time if cared for appropriately.

Once cut into/carved they last approx 4 days.

We have a pumpkin from our 2025 crop in our shed which is still perfect!

Pumpkins should be treated just like any other fruit or veg - they don’t like to be dropped, bruised or bashed.

It is your responsibility to look after your pumpkins.

Pumpkins will deteriorate in warm environments - despite the rising costs of living our houses are still largely very warm. Ovens, tumble dryers, boilers, radiators etc all give off a lot of heat and this will cause the pumpkin to deteriorate quicker. Beware of central heating, fires and heated floors etc and instead store them in a cool place.

Pumpkins don’t like to sit in water or have water pool in the tops where the stems are.

If the weather turns and we get frost - pumpkins don’t react well.

We recommend sheds, garages, cool porches, a coal shed etc for storage til closer to Halloween. If you want to keep them outside just turn them on their side when it rains so that water can’t collect in the top.

Once you pierce the skin, pumpkins will only last a few days so be wary of carving too soon if you want them for Halloween.

As we say each year - 99.9% of you store your pumpkins brilliantly and display them before carving later in the month. And return to us year after year to choose your pumpkins which is absolutely amazing and we are thankful for the support every year.

All of our pumpkins and squashes are grown by us in the fields you find them in - they are edible and delicious so please do make use of a wonderful seasonal food! Anything you do with a butternut squash you can do with a pumpkin.

If you roast the flesh before freezing, it can be stored as well. The pumpkin seeds can also be roasted on a low heat for adding to your meals or snacking.

Once you’ve finished with the pumpkins please do put outside for the birds (out of reach of hedgehogs) as it’s a good food source for them once November arrives.

We are open as usual and we always continually monitor the forecast on several apps and via met office daily. (The joys of being farmers creates weather app addiction for sure!)

As we've had a few messages this morning, this leaves me feeling that the weather might be worse elsewhere. But for us, the Met Office hasn't issued any weather warnings and doesn't usually for 18-25mph winds. Only when the wind speed (not the gusts) goes over 40mph would a yellow warning be issued.

This afternoon is due to be dry but windy. Wrap up and have a fun afternoon pumpkin picking! πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ
