7 out of 10 parents found their ability to cope was affected by COVID-19. As a CIC trying to do our part for new parents struggling with Food Insecurity due to the impact of Coronavirus, we welcome the report today from Home Start and Best Beginnings. 🐻🍃

🗣 Today we launch a new report that shows the impact of COVID-19 on pregnancy, giving birth or being at home with a baby or toddler.

Almost 5,500 parents shared their experiences with us as part of the report released today. The impact has been huge – but we are calling for three things to make sure they have the support they need:
🟪 A one-off BABY BOOST this means enabling local services to support families who have had a baby during or close to lockdown.
🟪 A new PARENT INFANT PREMIUM which will provide new funding for local commissioners
🟪 SIGNIFICANT AND SUSTAINED INVESTMENT to support families from conception to age two years and beyond, including statutory services, charities and community groups.

‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ pancakes 🐛🥞 for breakfast then ‘Elmer’ pizza for dinner!🐘🍕

When we saw make her ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ spinach and sweetcorn fritters last week from we loved them! We were just as impressed with and her spinach and basil pancakes. We though we’d give it a go too!

We wanted to have them for breakfast so went for avocado, banana and spinach pancakes with watermelon for the face and strawberries for the antennae.

On a roll, we wanted to make something else from one of our favourite stories. It had to be ‘Elmer’ pizza! Elephant shaped, patchwork pizza inspired by by David McKee. We loved how it turned out!

Here’s how we made it all:
🐛Pancakes: Add 1 avocado, 1 banana, 2 handfuls of spinach to a blender along with a cup of water and 2 eggs and blend. Then add a cup of plain flour and mix. Drop some spoonfuls into a pan and cook lightly on both sides.

🐘Pizza: We cheated and just ready to roll pizza dough. Roll out and top with passata and mozzarella cheese the cut lots of yummy veggies into small squares for the topping. We used cherry tomatoes, red onion, black olives, green and orange peppers, sweetcorn and mozzarella cheese. Put it in the oven for 15 mins on 190°c 🐻🍃

D I N N E R T I M E 🍗🥔🍅📦 Mediterranean Chicken traybake with tzatziki 🥒

Method: Parboil halved Charlotte potatoes and then add to roasting tin with diced chicken breast, chopped peppers, red onion, courgette, cherry tomatoes, garlic and herbs. Drizzle with olive oil and roast on 180°c for 30-40mins.
Add feta and olives and stir before serving! 🐻🍃

A breakfast with something for everyone to graze on! 🍓🥯🍳🍅🥐🧇🍯🍉Then a family dinner of Joe Wicks’ chicken filo pie! 🍗🍲🥧🥕Enough for all your little bears to tuck into! We also had homemade strawberry tarts but little fingers grabbed them far too fast for a photograph! 😆❤️🍓Happy Father’s Day to all the lovely daddies!🐻🍃

Thank you ! 🍓Now we are finally allowed to be somewhere other than our house, we couldn’t think of anywhere better to be than picking strawberries at Kenyon Hall Farm! 🍓Even the rain just added to the fun! ☔️

The strawberries are being put to great use in our baby and grown ups grazing boxes this weekend! Plus sent out in our Baby Weaning Meal Recipe Boxes too, alongside a special strawberry tart recipe for baby to enjoy! We might have kept a few for ourselves too! 😉🍓See you soon for blackcurrants! 🐻🍃
