NEW FOR 2026 – BEST HERD COMPETITION
We're delighted to introduce our new Best Herd Competition for Trap Show 2026! This is a fantastic opportunity for us to recognise our local cattle farmers and for our beef and dairy farmers to showcase the quality, breeding, management and hard work that goes into their herds throughout the year.

Entry forms are available from Show Secretary Cerys Llewelyn on 07815 744496 or can be downloaded using the link in the comments below.

Judge Colin Jones, Penfedw, Llandyfaelog will visit farms/herds from 27th June to 18th July 2026. We look forward to seeing the excellent herds our area has to offer. Good luck to all entrants!

An afternoon tackling the reeds!
Today we've been topping the reeds in one of our grazing fields. It's the first step in a plan to get on top of them, with w**d wiping planned in a couple of weeks' time to tackle the regrowth and hopefully reduce them for good.

We have seen areas of thd farm change over the years and it's amazing how much this field has changed. Around eight years ago, we were making haylage here for the livestock over winter. Now, nearly half of the field has become wetter, particularly in one corner and the reeds are gradually taking over areas that were once productive grassland.

The changing weather patterns and wetter conditions that we are seeing more and more of have had a noticeable impact on the farm, so it's important that we stay on top of issues like this when we get thd opportunity to protect valuable psture and grazing land for the future.

Fresh grass, plenty of shade and a field full of happy spotties!

We moved the spottied onto fresh grazing and they certainly weren’t complaining. With the warm weather back again, it’s nice to have them settled in a field with much more shelter and shade for them to tuck under through the hottest parts of the day.

Our lambs are continuing to come on well and it’s hard to believe we’re already nearly at weaning time. Next weekend our youngest lambs will be 12 weeks old, so we’re hoping to wean them then.

We are really pleased with how this year’s lambs are developing, especially seeing them thriving out on grass and starting to show more shape and character every week. A field full of happy (but very warm) sheep and growing lambs is hard to beat!

With the warm weather arriving, we’ve been keeping a close eye on our livestock, especially the Spotties, who are all still carrying their winter coats. We hope they will be sheared in a couple of weeks.

Between checking livestock and keeping on top of farm work, the house and garden are usually left for another day… but we’ve finally made a start.

We’ve got plenty of ideas, although finding the balance between what looks good and what’s practical for everyday farm life will take some thought. We've got a long way to go yet, but it’ll be nice to slowly see it all come together. Let the project begin!

Our cows and calves are definitely enjoying being out on fresh pasture and Monty especially seems happy to be back in with the girls.

The two new heifers bought a few weeks ago from at Carmarthen Mart are settling in well and the calves are really starting to come on and develop now.

Our calves are all sired by Monty our Limousin bull, they’ve got plenty of shape and are doing really well, especially this cheecky 9 week old steer calf who is also growing fast and starting to show great potential already. With plenty of grass in front of them, hopefully they’ll all have a happy and good summer ahead.

A bank holiday weekend all about the cows! We are so happy to have brought Monty, our Limousin bull, back home. He is settled in nicely and already acting like he never left.

We also added two new faces to the herd, we bought two British Blue cross bulling heifers, Bluebell and Peony who are fitted in well.

Time spent in the fields and around the farm, checking on our livestock and making sure everyone’s happy and settled.
