Update 04.10.25: the chap has been round this morning and left the outstanding amount. In fairness to him, he has now overpaid. We have reached out with an offer to transfer the overpayment back to him. If he doesn’t respond we will donate the money to our llama sanctuary charity, which is due to have a large influx of animals this winter so we are grateful for any funds to feed and house them all.

Thank you to the large amount of people who have been in touch about this incident. We now consider this situation fully resolved and as such, have removed the customer’s photo from this post.

(Original post below for context):

Does anyone recognise this young man? Alas he needs some numeracy lessons for yesterday he left only 28 pence for the multiple items he took from the shop. And possibly some reading lessons, as he failed to note the sign that clearly mentions the use of security cameras, and the sign that asks customers to leave a note if they do not have the correct change. He seemed to be in a bit of a hurry as he can be heard on the video shouting to the passenger in his dark blue fiesta: ‘grab them! Quick quick quick!’

We have waited over 24 hours for him to return in case he realised the error of his ways, but he has not manifested. Please do share this message and hopefully someone will be able to pass on our disappointment to him. If you could direct him back to our family run farm to pay for all of the items that he took before we hand over his car registration details and inform the Llama Police.

Usual disclaimer:
We don’t make any profit from the shop. All proceeds go towards the food and veterinary bills for our rescue animals. We believe in providing good quality food to the local community at a fair price whilst retaining the optimal environment for our animals, who are fed the best organic food that we can source, and this is reflected in the quality of our products. Like human food, animal food has risen in price dramatically since 2020 and the whole exercise is a loss leading venture, completely subsidised by our llama walks. We understand that times are hard at the moment and we offer many services free to community groups. We do not however, operate a ‘help yourself to whatever you like for whatever price you like without asking’ policy currently. If someone genuinely cannot afford to buy food we are always happy to provide it for free if asked, in return for some honest help on the farm.

Happy birthday to snazzy zazzy - 11 today!

Zazu has probably been on more llama treks than any other llama here and is always a reliable leader. Not every llama will happily walk at the front of the line consistently, but Zazu makes it look easy. It is something often taken for granted by visitors, but you can’t force a llama to do anything it doesn’t want to do (you try moving 175kg of committed fur and muscle!). Everything has to be done with trust and respect. Therefore there is never any guarantee that the llamas will want to go on a walk at the same time as us humans. And yet Zazu consistently takes the lead and shows the younger llamas what to do. And he never complains. He is the literal embodied of not talking the talk but walking the walk 😊🦙

He also happens to be our greediest llama. He learnt long ago though that the best food can be had via llama takeaway - helping himself to the grass verges on our llama walks and sampling the finest hazel in the woods. For some llamas this can be undesirable disruptive behaviour if they are forcing their human to constantly stop while eating the hedges - but Zazu is the master multitasker and capable of walking and eating at the same time! Penblwydd hapus you big greedy long neck!

Keen eyed llama watchers may have noticed a new llama creeping around over the past year. This is Sara the Suri Llama, who became our official logo and mascot in 2024. Literally a decade in the making, we really took our time getting a company logo sorted out. Some of this was just down to being rather busy folk: running a business, farm, charity, and living with over 100 animals plus raising a son tends to leave little in the way for spare time, but the main obstacle was our director Matt’s very clear view on what the logo should be - fun, happy, simple - not a fancy graphic logo but a simple black and white line art sketch - a smiling llama who (just to complicate matters further) also happened to have our favourite suri (long haired) fleece type - which we have since been advised by numerous people is no fun to draw and difficult to portray in a logo.

We approached multiple professional designers to help us manifest this vision, but it never felt quite right. Most people would offer their own interpretation of our requirements. Many designs were too professional or too ‘logo-y’ (yep that’s a word now). Many would try to portray the traditional short haired ccara llama - and whilst we absolutely love ccara llamas and live with many of them here - for a logo they don’t float our boat - pretty much every llama organisation in the world uses one: because it is the sensible thing to do and is readily identifiable as a llama. We however are not sensible, nor inclined to follow custom. Hence our strong belief in going with a suri llama - despite the fact that this opens us up to criticism and misinterpretations of ‘it’s a sheep’, ‘it’s not very marketable’, ‘it looks like a dog’ (HOW DARE YOU).

The years rolled by, and so did the graphic designers. We had almost given up on ever having a logo that sung to our values of fun, happiness, and simplicity. Then a few years ago we realised that one of our volunteers Emma was rather good at art. Her other talents include shearing llamas and balancing chickens on her head. After many moons of nagging and bullying, we finally managed to corner her between Fintan the maremma guardian dog and Aleks the Sanctuary Manager, and didn’t let her move until she had come up with a design that ticked all of our boxes. After several tense days she had cracked it, and we allowed her to finally leave the sofa. Out of these historic sessions Sara was born, and promptly set forth colonising our websites and signage. In the second half of 2025, she will be going much, much further - so keep your eyes peeled to see where she pops up next!

Diolch Emma for all your help, you true llama legend!

Happy birthday to head llama Teilo, ELEVEN today!
Where did the time go? 🙀🤔🦙

Teilo is the gentleman leader and peacekeeper of the herd. Llamas are normally well behaved, but if there is even a hint of mutiny in the ranks, Teilo will quash any undesirable behaviour with just a look in the direction of the llama in question - and the boys know better than to provoke Teilo. Our biggest llama, Teilo is always on the lookout, checking the perimeter for potential threats. He also proved naturally adapt at helping us to round up our rescued guanaco when they decided to go for a little wander, sensitively yet robustly guiding everyone back to where they should be. Penblwydd hapus you top chap! 🫡🦙
