Waiting for a Lamb Box?

Check your emails!
We've just sent out emails to lots of you, as we will have our first batch of the Autumn lamb boxes ready for collection on Saturday 12th September.

Please reply and let us know you can make it!

If you haven't had an email today, we'll be arranging another batch in a couple of weeks' time - shouldn't be too long to wait!

Our Pigsty Swallows have successfully hatched their second brood.

These babies fledged about 10 days ago, but return to the pigsty to roost overnight - and when it's raining!

They don't seem to mind me sneaking in to take phitos at all.

A little update for those of you waiting for a Lamb Box:

Our lambs are growing very well despite the dry weather.

We're expecting the first batch of lamb boxes to be ready around the 12th September.

If you've already placed an order, you will get an email soon confirming a collection date.

And if you haven't ordered yet... we will have more lamb boxes available 2-3 weeks later (exact date will be confirmed nearer the time)

The turkeys are very happy with all this dry weather.

Turkeys hate rain ....although these youngsters have never actually experienced any!

They spend all day out in the fields, sunbathing, dustbathing and generally enjoying the Summer!

And this is what our 'best' grazing looks like!

Our highest quality grass is always reserved for the growing lambs. Usually that means fields of lush green grass up to their knees. Not this year!

However, although from a distance this might look like a desert - these lambs are finding plenty to eat.

These fields have a high percentage of clover, which has survived the drought much better than the grass. Look closely at the base and you will find a decent amount of green leaf.

It must be good stuff, as these lambs are growing well - really pleased with their results at weigh-in last week.

Another reason to keep hardy, native breeds - they thrive even when the going is tough.

This isn't how Wales is supposed to look.....

We're actually far better off than we might normally be, as we bought some extra land last Autumn.

Ideally we'd have taken a second cut of silage from the extra fields. But instead, it's being grazed as 'standing hay'. Despite looking very, very dry, it's keeping the cows and ewes surprisingly happy.

We reckon we have enough grazing for another 3 weeks. Then (like many farmers are already doing), we'll need to start using our stored hay. That could leave us without enough to get through the winter.

Please can we have some rain?
