Epic morning spent at Garthenor mill with Jonny showing me around his spinning mill in Cardigan.
I came home incredibly excited to be planning more yarns for the welsh wool shop!
Some beautiful dyed yarns will be hitting the shop very soon.
Its been a while to get together and get some business in the pipeline, but I know we will be working with garthenor mill a whole lot more!!

After speaking with my very practical vet yesterday we have got the BT3 vaccine for bluetounge virus for the sheep. Alex is hoping to get them done today.
I spoke with Angus to ask if I had over watched videos on Facebook and was mindlessly panicking about the bluetounge virus. However, he immediately said no, not panicking and being sensible.
Vaccination will hopefully keep this devastating disease away from the flock.
I know how easily West Wales shares the weather with Devon and Cornwall , so we can just as easily share midges infected already.
Its a great concern, and more sheep that are vaccinated, the less we will see heavy losses. The virus looks horrific for the sheep, and little a shepherd can do apart from support them. If theyre lucky they'll make it, but so many dont.
Its not cheap, about the price of a good lamb at mart, but the whole flock will be protected while we wait and see.

Fandabidoze is doing really well so far from her fly strike attack. Shes enjoying some cake ( sheep food) and she's also resting a lot.
The blue spray is an antibiotic and healing spray. Flies dont like it either. Blue spray is a staple in a farmers first aid box, quick to apply and gets into all the nooks and crannies of a wound, or into clover hooves for an infected foot.
Onwards and upwards for fandabidoze, she's a strong ewe like her mum Bimbo. 🐑🐑

It all looks idyllic as the sun sets behind some sheep at the farm. However, this was a late evening dash to the summer grazing after Alex's sheep check revealed fandabidoze had a bad case of fly strike. She would need to come back to the farm, and we found another with a snotty nose and a couple who've lost a bit too much condition after weaning thier lambs off of them.
Antibiotics, pain relief, ( what we had in stock for tonight), a close shave and crovect ( a chemical to kill maggots) and now we hope fandabidoze will be ok. At least at the farm we can keep a close eye on her and snotty who also had antibiotics.
Some grub and tlc and hopefully they'll all join the flock again soon.
This morning started with the cat having a fat lip from a sting, and some juggling at the shops.
9pm and we've had a shower and light supper... bedtime soon as tomorrow is another day.
Ill be up early to check on fandabidoze.

Just a reminder to make sure you look after your shearers in this hot weather.
*have shade available to get into
* have water available
* make the job as smooth as possible for them by having the flock ready and having a simple system that creates less physical effort for you, the shearer and the sheep!

Its hot, there's a lot of sheep to get through still, shearers can't afford to be off with heatstroke.

This is the pumpkin patch waste wool experiment!
I know squash love an old muck heap, so this year, after moving the old good stuff to the various patches in the garden, the base looked like black gold! So to stop the weeds taking hold and giving some nutrients, slug protection and moisture retention I've placed all the dag ends of wool from shearing and skirting onto the patch.
Its going to be a wet week apparently with rain forecast, so this will flatten the wool down more.
Next up will be then be some compost for where the pumpkin babies will be planted and get their feet into all that muck.
Meanwhile, Molly was having way too much smelly fun rolling on the mucky fleeces!!
I love using wool in the garden, its so useful!
