Lower House Farm First generation tenant farmers making a go on one of Monmouthshire's County Farm, Lower House Farm, Wales.

We are Laura and Matt - first generation farmers running a mixed livestock holding at Lower House Farm. Alongside rearing sheep, cattle, pigs and hens for eggs we also host on farm events and experiences periodically across the year.

We are committed to farming ethically and sustainably and have recently opened an onsite farm shop to sell our own produce and that of other local, independent producers across Monmouthshire and the surrounding counties.

Alongside our farmed animals we also have a menagerie of other residents including Highland Cows, Peanut the Shetland Pony, Pygmy Goats, Alpacas, Rheas and Valais Blacknose Sheep who form part of our on farm experiences. Our next public event is Pumpkin Patch in October - we are currently working hard to try and keep the pumpkins growing, despite the tough, dry weather conditions!

🚗 Visiting us today? 🎃If coming from Newport direction, please use the 2nd turning - wide lane off the A48 (opposite Caerwent road) up to Llanvair Discoed when making your way to Lower House Farm, even if your sat nav suggests turning off the A48 route early.

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to visit our pumpkin patch today (and our incredible team of staff!) Your support means so much to our little farm, and seeing you enjoying yourselves despite the rain made our day! 🧡

Looking forward to (hopefully) a drier day tomorrow and welcoming more of you for our last Sunday of this season! 🎃

🎃So where are we up to with this weather…

The weather is so hard to predict (welcome to our farming life 🫠!). As it stands we’re still hoping to open the pumpkin patch tomorrow! We’ll assess conditions in the morning and go from there (if it’s just rain then all systems go - wellies and waterproofs on - but if it’s windy too we’ll reassess..)

We put so much hard work and heart into getting the patch ready for you, but the safety of our visitors, animals and team always comes first. 🧡

Fingers crossed it’s not as bad as predicted! 🤞 Please keep an eye on our socials for the latest before setting off.

Pull on your wellies (regardless of the weather ☀️) and come and enjoy a proper autumn day on the farm this weekend! ☺️

Here at Lower House Farm, we love seeing families take their time choosing a pumpkin, meeting our animals and having a giggle at the scarecrows. Add children’s activities, hot food and a warming drink, and you’ve got the makings of some lovely autumn memories. 🍂🍁
