We had a fantastic weekend last weekend for the Hebridean Sheep Society summer Symposium in North Uist. Myself, Calum Ferguson and Ealasaid Dick pulled together a programme which included the first Inter-Island Show of pedigree Hebrideans in the Hebrides in well over ten years. I was very pleased with my show results, with several 3rds and good signs of heading in the right direction. Happy to get both 3rd and 4th places in the gimmers and very pleased to have my home-bred tup being the highest placed island bred tup behind two lovely bought in tups. Seeing so many good Hebrideans together is a rare thing and it was a great sight!
I was also pleased to have over 30 Symposium attendees come to my croft where I explained about crofting, the history of my croft and stock, and how I am working to make my stock hardy on such difficult ground (and why the Hebridean must be kept as a hardy breed), as well as my cross-breeding the Hebrideans to have Heb mules rearing Suffolk cross lambs. Thanks to Ealasaid, Calum, and Tara for their help cleaning the shed!
