We’re heading to Moffat Farmers Market this Sunday!

We’ll be there from 10.30am until 2.30pm, and we’ve got a lovely selection of fresh veg, plants and gift ideas coming with us!

🥕 Fresh from Border Plants – we’ll be bringing a selection of our freshly picked, homegrown vegetables. Perfect for your Sunday roast or stocking up for the week ahead.

🌵 Something a little different? We’ve been busy putting together some lovely succulent arrangements in a variety of pots and containers. They make great little gifts, or why not treat yourself? Prices start from just £4.

🎄 Christmas wreaths – it’s getting to that time of year again! We’ll also be taking orders for our Christmas wreaths, so come and have a chat about getting yours organised.

Whether you’re after fresh veg, looking for a different gift idea or just fancy stopping for a wee blether, we’d love to see you.

What a weekend at the farmers markets.

A big thank you to everyone who came along to see us. It was great to catch up with familiar faces, meet plenty of new ones and have a good blether about what we’re growing and what we’ve got coming next.

There’s something about a farmers market that you just don’t get anywhere else. People taking the time to look at the produce, asking questions, swapping cooking ideas and having a proper chat.

We took a good selection of fresh veg with us and came home with considerably less, which is always a good sign!

Thank you to everyone who bought from us, stopped for a chat or simply came over to have a look. Supporting small local growers and businesses really does make a difference.

We’ll see you at the next one.

A busy weekend ahead for Border Plants — we’re at two farmers’ markets this weekend.

First up, we’ll be at The Lockerbie Old School Farmers’ Market tomorrow, Saturday 3rd October, from 10am–2pm.

Then on Sunday 4th October, we’re heading to Dumfries Farmers’ Market at Dumfries Railway Station, 10.30am–2.30pm.

We’ll have a good selection of fresh veg with us across the weekend, grown here at Border Plants.

There’s been plenty to get sorted before we load everything up, but that’s all part of a market weekend.

If you’re in Lockerbie on Saturday or Dumfries on Sunday, come along, have a look at what we’ve got and stop for a wee blether.

Hopefully by Sunday afternoon the trailer will be considerably lighter than it was on Saturday morning!

We’re all set up at Moffat Farmers’ Market!

After a busy day picking and preparing yesterday, the stall is full and we’re ready to go.

Plenty of fresh, locally grown veg with us today — including turnips, broccoli, broccoli stems, beetroot, carrots, lettuce and plenty more.

The market opens at 10.30am and we’re here until 2.30pm.

If you’re around Moffat today, come along, have a look at what we’ve brought and stop for a wee chat. Hopefully we’ll be taking a lot less home than we brought with us!

Moffat Farmers’ Market tomorrow!

It’s been a busy Saturday here at Border Plants, getting everything picked and ready for tomorrow’s Moffat Farmers’ Market.

We’ll be there from 10.30am–2.30pm with plenty of freshly harvested produce, including turnips, beetroot, radish, carrots, broccoli, rhubarb, Swiss chard, lettuce and more.

Most of what you see in these photos has come straight out of the ground today. You can’t get much fresher than that.

If you’re heading to Moffat tomorrow, come along, say hello and have a look at what we’ve brought with us. We always enjoy a good blether about what we’re growing too.

And while we’ve been busy picking, there’s something else taking shape back at Border Plants…

Our new indoor farm shop is coming soon.

We’ve been working away behind the scenes getting it ready, and we’ll share more as we get closer to opening.

Cucumbers and tomatoes

A quick look at what’s happening further along the tunnels.

The cucumbers are coming on well, with some good-sized ones hanging on the plants now.

The tomatoes are continuing to colour too, and there are plenty more coming behind them.

This is always the stage where you start checking the plants a little more often — partly to see what’s ready and partly because you know if you leave the tomatoes too long they’ll start to split.

So although the shop is having a little break, the growing certainly isn’t.

The dahlias are going great

The dahlias are certainly making a bit of a statement in the field now.

There’s a real mixture of colours and shapes coming through, and with so many buds still to open, it should only get better over the next few weeks.

Some of them are standing tall, some are doing their own thing and a few seem to have decided that the best place to grow is wherever they fancy!

That’s dahlias for you.

I’m really pleased with how they’re looking, though. There’s something about seeing a whole bed of dahlias flowering that never gets old.

Inside the tunnels

While we’ve been away from the shop, we’ve still been busy keeping everything ticking over in the tunnels.

The lemongrass is coming along nicely and the Thai basil is looking very healthy.

Then we’ve got the peppers, which are getting bigger by the day. There’s plenty of fruit on the plants now and they’re really starting to look the part.

There’s a surprising amount of work involved in keeping everything growing happily — watering, feeding, tying, moving things around and generally keeping an eye on what’s doing what.

And, of course, trying to stop the plants taking over the place!

A look around the field…

The shop might be closed for a few days, but the plants clearly didn’t get the memo!

There’s plenty going on out in the field at the moment. The potatoes are coming along well, the yellow beetroot is filling out nicely, and our rainbow radish are giving us some lovely colours.

The Swiss chard is looking particularly good too.

And then there’s the sweetcorn.

I couldn’t resist pulling one to have a taste on one of the roasting hot days we had. They’re not quite ready yet, but they were already incredibly sweet.

I think that one may have disappeared before it ever had a chance of making it back to the shop!

The field is certainly keeping us busy, but it’s good to see everything coming along.
