Have you ever thought about what makes you happy?
Enjoying a walk through the local park in the afternoon, or sitting down to a movie marathon for no reason other than it's available 🤗

How about snacking on a selection of wagashi themed around the autumn? Can't complain if you're enjoying tasty snacks😜

Our upcoming weekly wagashi selection is all about slowing down and enjoying something that makes you happy.

"After very long weekends, Monday mornings are a quiet time here at Matcha Sundays." is what we'd like to say.

Actually, it's rare that we get to enjoy a quiet moment.
So when we had a spare black sesame doughnut from yesterday's weekly box, it was nice to be able to sit in the garden and enjoy the doughnut with a cup of tea.

Not going to lie, it was a breakfast tea today. Doesn't always have to be Japanese tea🤗

"Kurogoma" black sesame mochi doughnuts (黒ゴマ餅ドーナツ) have quietly been around here at Matcha Sundays for a while now. The thing is, people don't really know about it, or don't really think black sesame is a flavour that does well.

This thinking is incorrect.

Black sesame is here, and it is powerful tasty.

🚨NEW PRODUCT ALERT🚨 Manjū (まんじゅう / 饅頭)

This is peak comfort food from the walk home after school! The granny obachan who used to run the shop under the train tracks always had them with a kind smile for the school kids, very reasonably priced at 50 yen!

So of course we just had to make them.

You may have seen these fluffy morsels floating around our menus, or our feed recently but it's go time now.
They're available for both in-person deliveries and for postal orders!

Have a steamer at home? Pop them in and reheat for that nostalgic fluffy bun magic🤩
No steamer? Microwave after sprinkling a few drops of water on the manjū and watch the magic happen🤗

Move over matcha, let black sesame take centre stage!

Don't get the wrong idea, matcha is seriously good stuff. As is hojicha, genmaicha, cinnamon, kuromitsu, or any other wagashi flavour.

But black sesame deserves some recognition. The gently nutty flavour that surprisingly goes well with a variety of flavours. This week's box is all about discovering the gentle spaces between the noisy hype of matcha.

🚨NEW PRODUCT ALERT🚨: Black Sesame Yatsuhashi (黒ゴマ八ツ橋). This yatsuhashi has ground black sesame mixed in the azuki bean filling, providing a subtle yet nutty flavour to the (hopefully) familiar flavour of yatsuhashi!

We're thinking these will be a perfect match to the other hydrangea wagashi, with the pinks and reds balancing the greens and blues and purples🥰

Our Matcha & Dark Chocolate brownie is a careful balance of two separate brownie mixes.

Matcha blondies are often too sweet, overpowering the matcha flavour. Chocolate brownies are tasty but also a bit boring. The magic happens when you combine the two together.

Suddenly the dark chocolate balances the sweetness of the blondie, and you get to enjoy the matcha flavour so much more. Rather than being "just chocolate" it starts playing a key role in pulling everything together.
